This fund is set to empower Somalia’s pastoralists and businesses throughout the livestock sector by: ✅ De-risking private investments to boost confidence among financial institutions ✅ Prioritizing women- and youth-owned businesses, ensuring greater inclusivity ✅ Focusing on value addition, from meat processing to feed production #Somalia’s livestock industry employs millions and generates nearly 80% of the country’s export revenue. Through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable financing, the LVCF will bolster this critical sector—enhancing resilience, driving productivity, and unlocking its full potential. The gathering aims to harmonize key standards—such as fortified rice, biofortified beans, probiotics, and ready-to-eat porridges—critical for improving food security, nutrition, and livestock value chains across the region. The SoBS delegation, led by Mr. Abdikadir Abidsalan, director of standards development and trade, will work with partners to advocate for #Somalia’s priorities, finalize harmonized guidelines, build collaborations, and improve compliance measures supporting livestock and livestock-derived products. HoA DRIVE Somalia project supports @SobsSomalia to align standards with regional frameworks, reduce non-tariff barriers, and strengthen trade linkages, thereby boosting Somalia’s trade potential and regional stability.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄 Today in #Mogadishu, key stakeholders gathered for a workshop to review and validate the Draft Somali Rules of Origin Law, an essential piece of legislation toward integrating Somalia into regional and global trade frameworks. Organized by @mocisom, with the support of HoA DRIVE Somalia, the event featured an in-depth discussion on the draft law's potential to transform Somalia’s trade and export sectors, along with its associated benefits and costs. In his opening remarks, DG @MohamedSDalmar of MoCI highlighted the inclusive and collaborative undertaken during the drafting process, which involved extensive consultations with both public and private sector stakeholders. He described the draft law as a fundamental step toward improving Somalia's export capabilities through better product labeling and adherence to international standards. Saney called on the stakeholders to share their insights to help refine and shape the law and actively support its implementation, which he said would unlock Somalia’s vast trade potential. The Chairman of Somali Chamber of Commerce, Mahmoud Abdikarin Gabeyre, who spoke about the Chamber's past practice of issuing certificates of origin, expressed strong support for the draft law. He pointed out that the legislation would further simplify export processes, particularly for key sectors such as livestock, fisheries, and agriculture, while also enabling Somalia to benefit from trade agreements such as the Greater Arab League Free Trade Area, by securing valuable tax incentives. @plazasonia, the HoA DRIVE Task Team Leader at the World Bank, shared insights on the broader economic implications of the proposed law, noting that it is a requirement for Somalia’s deeper integration into the East African Community (EAC). She highlighted opportunities for expanding market access and strengthening key value chains, particularly in the livestock sector. Sonia noted that initiatives like the HoA DRIVE project reflect the World Bank's commitment to supporting trade facilitation, improved standards, and value chain development in #Somalia. The workshop wrapped up with fruitful exchange of ideas from business leaders, legal experts, and trade professionals, on refining the law and tackling challenges, such as addressing export-import tax hurdles, curbing trade diversions, policy fragmentation, and improving coordination between the government and export sectors. The insights gathered will inform further revisions to the draft law, with next steps focused on incorporating stakeholder feedback to finalize the legislation.
