Girls Who Dream, Women Who Lead - #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience “When it comes to a girl’s marriage, parents will always find a way to get money to pay even huge dowries, but they hesitate to spend on education.” – Simran, PhD, IISc For many young women in India, the dream of pursuing STEM is not just about academic excellence but overcoming deep-rooted societal and financial barriers. At Sashakt, we are changing this narrative. Launched with the vision of eliminating financial obstacles, our Sashakt Scholarship Program has empowered young women from underprivileged backgrounds to pursue and MBBS degrees at top institutions. Through scholarships, mentorship, and a growing network of mentorship support, we are ensuring that no girl has to choose between her dreams and her circumstances. Simran almost had to give up her admission to Delhi University because of unaffordable living expenses. Bhavna found not just financial aid but a mentor who told her, “24/7 you can call me if there’s anything.” More than 60% of our scholars have gone on to pursue postgraduate studies at prestigious institutions, breaking the cycle of gender disparity in STEM. Today, on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we celebrate these young women who defied the odds and are now thriving. Their success is proof that when we invest in her education, we invest in a better future for all 👩🔬🔬 #WomenInSTEM #WomenInScience #BreakingBarriers #genderbend #girls #education #Sashakt #EmpowerHer #impact #sustainability #SDGs #drreddysfoundation

"Life was never easy. After my father passed away, my mother took on everything—raising my brother and me on just ₹5,000 a month as a teacher. No matter how tough things got, she never let us stop studying. Even when money was tight, she found a way, borrowing if she had to, just to keep us in school." For Utpal Borah, his disability was never something that held him back—until he started applying for jobs. The world saw him differently, not for his skills but for his condition. Companies rejected him outright, forcing him to hide it, hoping to be judged for his abilities instead. The training at GROW PwD centre helped him secure his first job at Airtel and then a second one at Indigo. "I learned to own my story, walk into rooms confidently, and speak English fluently without hesitation. Now, I work at IndiGo. My ₹25,000 salary not only supports my brother’s education but also gives me something I always wanted—to buy my mother a ring, a small token for everything she’s done for us." #BreakingBarriers #disability #skills #inclusion #youth #training #impact #sustainability #SDGs #drreddysfoundation

Strengthening Coastal Resilience in Gujarat 🌱🌊 On January 23, we launched our Mangrove Restoration Project - "Project Vasudha" - in Tadatalav village, Gujarat, in collaboration with GRICL (Gujarat Road and Infrastructure Company Ltd.), the Gujarat Forest Department, and @IcfreIndia. As we mark World Wetlands Day (February 2), we take this opportunity to highlight the importance of restoring and protecting coastal ecosystems. Building on our ongoing restoration efforts in Andhra Pradesh through the Action for Climate and Environment (ACE) Program), this initiative aims to rehabilitate degraded mangrove ecosystems in the Gulf of Khambhat while fostering sustainable livelihoods for local communities. The project employs two key restoration methods: 🌱 Transplantation of Nursery-Raised Seedlings (Poly Bag Method): Ensuring higher survival rates by nurturing seedlings in controlled conditions before planting. 🌱 Direct Seedling Dibbling: Facilitating natural regeneration by planting propagules directly in suitable coastal zones. The initiative focuses on Rhizophora and Avicennia species and contributes to coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. By integrating environmental restoration with community engagement, we aim to set a model for sustainable coastal management. #Mangrove #MangroveRestoration #wetlandsday #Coastal #climate #ClimateAction #impact #sustainability #SDGs #drreddysfoundation

#MomentInFocus Empowering Her Future: Strengthening Education in Government Schools (📸Saurabh Anand Chatterjee) In government schools in Andhra Pradesh, young girls are gaining strong foundational skills through our Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN) and English Language (EL) interventions. Education is the most powerful tool for change, and through our School Improvement Program (SIP), we are ensuring that children from low-income households receive quality education. How are we making a difference? ✅ Strengthening Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN) and English Language (EL) skills with structured, year-long interventions and trained resource persons. ✅ Promoting WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) by training Public Health Educators (PHEs) to establish student-led health clubs, fostering healthy habits. ✅ Enhancing school infrastructure with essential resources like classroom improvements and RO water plants. Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our School Improvement Program is currently working with government schools in Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. This FY, the program has impacted 44,248 children. By investing in education, we empower children with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to shape their futures. #education #children #GirlEducation #SchoolImprovement #impact #sustainability #SDGs #PhotoOfTheDay #photography #drreddysfoundation

"My father’s income from selling fish was never stable, but his determination never wavered." Abinash’s father worked tirelessly, even taking loans to ensure his sons received a good education. But after graduating from a private college, Abinash couldn’t find a job, leaving the family in a tough spot. Joining GROW turned things around. The training sharpened his communication, spoken English, and Excel skills, helping him secure his first job as a Customer Relations Officer at IIFL Samasta Finance. "With my first salary, I paid my younger brother’s college fees and bought him a mobile phone, taking some of the financial burden off my father." We believe that pairing youth with the right skills and opportunities can significantly impact the livelihoods of low-income households. #youth #skills #training #employment #EmpoweringYouth #GROW #impact #sustainability #SDGs #drreddysfoundation

#nationalgirlchildday "One day, I’ll be a lawyer. I’ll help families like mine—families waiting too long for justice." Sahithya, a Class 9 student at our Kallam Anji Reddy Vidyalaya, carries a dream that shines brighter than her circumstances. After losing her father in a tragic accident, life changed for Sahithya and her mother. Her mom, a pillar of strength, works tirelessly—juggling two jobs, running the household, and fighting a legal battle for justice. Sahithya draws her strength from her mother’s determination. She helps at home, excels in her studies, and stays focused on her dream of becoming a lawyer. Her goal? To ensure no family has to endure the long, painful wait for justice like hers did. On National Girl Child Day, we celebrate stories like Sahithya’s—stories of resilience, ambition, and the boundless potential of young girls. With the right opportunities and unwavering support, every girl can rise to achieve her dreams and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with anyone. At Kallam Anji Reddy Vidyalaya, we are proud to nurture students like Sahithya, empowering them to believe in themselves and their aspirations. Here's to creating a world where every girl gets the chance to dream and the tools to make it happen🌟 #education #GirlChild #gender #inclusion #empoweringwomen #impact #sustainability #SDGs #drreddysfoundation

We are incredibly proud of Sourav Singh, our Center Associate from Raipur, for winning 1st place in Left Arm-Wrestling and 3rd place in Right Arm-Wrestling under the 90kg category at the All India PAFI "Para Arm-Wrestling" Cup 2025. "Sports have always been my way of pushing boundaries—of testing what I can do, rather than focusing on what I can’t having a locomotor disability. Winning the National Level Para Arm-Wrestling Championship still feels surreal. Taking first place in the Left Arm-Wrestling under 90s category and third in the Right Arm-Wrestling was a milestone I had only dreamed of. While I explored various sports, my true passion for arm wrestling began when I met my coach, Shrimant Jha, at a sports event. His approach and accomplishments as a para-athlete inspired me deeply, and under his guidance, I found a focus I had never experienced before. This championship wasn’t just about winning. It was about showing everyone who stood by me—my friends, family, and colleagues—that their faith in me wasn’t misplaced. I carried their support with me into every match, and that made all the difference. Now, as I train for the Asian Arm-Wrestling Championship, I feel more determined than ever. The backing I receive from DRF and my seniors helps me balance my work and training, and the encouragement from those around me pushes me forward. Arm wrestling, especially for Paralympians, is more than a sport—it’s a stage to show strength, focus, and determination. It defies the idea of limits and reminds us that ability, not disability, defines what we can achieve. For me, this is just the beginning." #disability #achievement #inculsion #BreakingBarriers #ParaAthlete #EmployeeSpotlight #drreddysfoundation

Meet Meesala Ramu, a progressive farmer benefiting from climate-smart practices. Here's his story in his own words: 💡 Reduced Costs: "It used to cost Rs. 15,000 per acre to plough. With the double-wheel marker, it’s only Rs. 1,500 now." 👥 Less Labor: "Earlier, we needed 10 people to sow an acre. Now, just four people are needed." 🌾 Better Crops, Less Input: "Using less fertilizer has improved crop quality, and I now get up to 40 quintals of yield." 💧 Water Efficiency: "With AWD (Alternate Wetting and Drying) pipes, I save 2-3 rounds of irrigation." What are these tools/techniques? 🔘 Double-Wheel Marker: A simple yet powerful tool that helps farmers mark rows for sowing seeds with precision. It reduces the need for manual labour, cuts costs, and ensures optimal seed placement for better crop yields. 💧 AWD (Alternate Wetting and Drying): An irrigation technique that alternates wet and dry phases in the field, saving water, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50%, and improving soil health. This is how simple, innovative tools and practices are empowering farmers like Meesala Ramu to grow more sustainably and profitably. #agriculture #farmers #climate #ClimateAction #water #soil #emissions #impact #sustainability #SDGs #drreddysfoundation

Our colleagues from the Action for Climate and Environment (ACE) and MITRA teams have published insightful research on the socioeconomic and environmental benefits of Napier grass adoption in livestock farming, featured in the journal 'Sustainability'. Key findings include: 1. Increased Milk Production: Incorporating Napier grass into feeding regimes results in a 24.6% rise in daily milk output, with an annual increase of 1244 liters per household. 2. Time Efficiency: Napier farmers spend 28–30 minutes less per cow daily, enabling time for other income-generating or well-being activities. 3. Empowering Women: Napier adoption increases women's involvement in livestock farming by 24 minutes per animal, offering opportunities for financial autonomy through surplus fodder sales. 4. Economic Impact: Farmers earn Rs 2047–2555 more per cow monthly, reducing reliance on external feed sources. 5. Health and Nutrition: Napier adopters consume 4.4 liters more milk per person monthly, improving family health and reducing medical costs. Livestock health also improves, requiring 1.2 fewer veterinary visits annually. This study highlights the potential of Napier grass to enhance food security, improve incomes, and support sustainable agricultural practices. These findings align with our commitment to empowering farmers through innovative, climate-smart solutions.
