@virgil_30 I think this is actually worse, because we tend to think of our ability to focus as more “in our control” than our ability to calculate. The result is the view that, if you’re bad at math, then *it’s your fault*

@troutsky_ When was the last time someone cited any of these people in the Journal of Philosophy? Or in The Philosophical Review? Or in any paper that shows up in the Philosopher’s Annual? I love these philosophers and agree with them a lot, but they’re not key players in the field.

@DevonHanel @KennethLPearce The view is not just *don’t* believe in excess stuff, it’s *dis*believe in excess stuff. I can totally see why someone would reject this strengthening, but again it just kinda seems right to me

@DevonHanel @KennethLPearce I don’t have a good argument for this, it just sort of seems right to me. Maybe the best argument I got is that it makes good sense of how I go about reasoning about things
