SCRATCH is super-useful, but it’s also beautiful! We used it to create an empty space in one tissue and back-fill that space with a second type of cell to create a ‘co-culture’ that can be used to study cell interactions and healing as well. ALL methods:

We used light to herd cell growth with @toettch lab! Optogenetics is pretty cool. Super fun collab. and exquisite data from @KevinSuhhh* and @RichardHT_*. Video: blue light pattern--> sheet of living tissue rearranges into creepy eye. See @toettch for🧵.

One of the most rewarding things I get to do is run a week-long science storytelling workshop each summer with my friend @eucryphia of @OddSalon and (thanks @NSF and @PrincetonCST!). It's time for Lab Tales #4! Funding for 5 non-Princeton trainees. Apply:

This weird boundary is pretty cool and it prevents mechanical information crossing the boundary, like a 'cadherin curtain'. This movie shows a strip of Ecad floor in the middle with collagen floor on the left/right. See how the left and right are not coordinated with each other?

Even weirder—electroinflation works in intestinal tissues like gut organoids! 3D intestinal organoid here showing large swelling in the left lobe. Why only this side? We don’t know! Lots of new things to chase down in the future!
