True development is not about competition but collaboration. It is about forging partnerships, strengthening governance, and ensuring that regional integration translates into tangible benefits for our people.- JKF
Regional development has always been at the core of my vision for governance. At the DAWN Commission roundtable in Ibadan, we reflected on the journey that led to its establishment and the immense potential it holds for the Southwest. It was a moment of pride to see how far we have come in institutionalising a framework for regional integration, one that is now positioned to guide the newly established Southwest Development Commission (SWDC). I extend my sincere appreciation to Dr. ‘Seye Oyeleye and the entire DAWN Commission team for their dedication and commitment to this cause. Their work has been instrumental in shaping the regional development agenda, ensuring that we continue to build on a solid foundation. For SWDC to truly deliver on its mandate, it must prioritise large-scale infrastructure—rail, power, and energy transition—over fragmented, short-term projects. Regional development must be anchored in strategic, long-term investments that create sustainable economic growth. More importantly, it must remain above partisan politics, focusing solely on advancing the collective prosperity of our people. True development is not about competition but collaboration. It is about forging partnerships, strengthening governance, and ensuring that regional integration translates into tangible benefits for our people. I remain committed to this vision and to working with all stakeholders to drive real, lasting progress for the Southwest and Nigeria at large.

@blockofbuilder The concept of ”laboratory federalism”, coined by Oates (1999), states that federations and more generally politically decentralized countries may benefit from better policies than centralized countries, thanks to a greater efficiency in identifying the best policies.
