focusing on new translations of the Odyssey in an advanced English class in high school could be an exciting experience. one can imagine the discussions if several translations are read side by side--a revelation to young readers that the world "is" its interpretations; that
@JoyceCarolOates Homer is still common in the 9th grade, although an entire epic isn’t. When people remember “reading The Odyssey” in high school, especially if it’s 9th or 10th grade, it’s usually excerpts. The whole thing would take a full quarter and is too unwieldy.
