Game 6 and Jack is ready. The guys have been relentless all season on delivering the best surface they can for
@CycloneFB
I couldn’t be prouder of them. The fields are in great hands and I couldn’t feel better about passing on the torch!
Same emotion every year for the first game...It’s like sending your first born off to kindergarten, knowing you have done all you can and he has to now survive on his own!
@MidAm_EnergyCo
field at Jack Trice Stadium is ready for game one. Go Cyclones!
@CycloneFB
@CycloneTurf
is 8 students, 1 full time assistant, and me. These guys battled hard all season. For the coldest Nov in 22yrs, along with very wet conditions for all but 1 game! I couldn’t be prouder. Tough day for the field, got all year to get it back to our standards!
Playing surface is ready for homecoming. Last three weeks under the growth covers have helped maintained color and has promoted some good recovery. 🤞we won’t have any rain!
@NWSDesMoines
@BrettMcWx
Field played as good as it could have with the conditions. Will have some work to do to get ready for next weekend. Could use a dry week/game! Thanks to all who notice the work my team does!
The field is ready. Been an interesting week to say the least. The crew did amazing things as always. Also had a few local turf volunteers helping this morning. Total team effort.
Ready for game 4....✅ Huge shout out to our crew they put in long hours and with multiple sporting events plus going to school and still do outstanding work like this! Thanks for all your hard work!
Field is in great shape going into our Dec game. Going to leave grow covers off for a few days to let the plant acclimate to winter temps, then back on Monday to help with some recovery and retain green color. Good weather makes things so much easier!!
A few post George Strait concert photos. Day 3 vs day 10 post show. Jack received 10 inches of rain during the week of the stage build and show. The field outperformed expectations. Build them correctly and they won’t disappoint. Ready for football!
@IowaSportsTurf
@CycloneFB
I have been a Cyclone for 9yrs. Not being from IA or really understanding what Iowa State fans were before I came....I am continually amazed at the dedication and support the fans show. It makes it a truly special place to work. Thank you!

#cycloneseverywhere
This is proof the field was painted....a 2nd time. Rain last night took it all away. Hopefully it misses us tonight🙏🤞. The guys are rock stars and dedicated to the cause. Couldn’t ask for anything more!!
Jack is done! Exciting to see this place green again. Was able to make quick work with the help of
@IowaSportsTurf
and Stensland Sod company.
Ended the night with a roll and some water. Work shifts over to Johnny Majors practice field now for a full renovation.
Game 5. Field is painted and ready. Leaving it open tonight to help dry it out. Then get ready for snow tarps tomorrow ahead of possible snows Thursday night and Friday night. Tough year...nothing easy!
Day 3 -
@IowaSportsTurf
has most the field cleared, starting to get a rough grade and tilling up the root zone to breakup and smooth out any organic matter in the profile to ensure proper drainage.
Game 5 against Kansas and Game 6 today against Texas. Busy few weeks in between with verticut, grow blankets and recovery. Lost a bit of color between games with change in weather but incredibly pleased with how Jack performed this year.
Aerify and cover with evergreen blankets before the snow. Can’t catch a break from
#MotherNature
Try to get this old boy ready for Homecoming! Side note, 50,000 fans on the field didn’t help!! Oh well, winning has its price....
That's a wrap for home games at Jack Trice Stadium! I can't say enough good things about this crew. They all have bright futures ahead of them have fought through every challenge a Sports Field Manager has to deal with and I can't wait to see where they land! Thank you all!
Humbled...to get an award from my peers is truly a humbling experience! Thank you for allowing me to serve, speak, and share ideas with all of you the past 10yrs.

The fellas, minus a few.
@JoshTvrdik
had to have a baby this week🤷♂️ and a few students are home for thanksgiving break. Each year is different with weather and staff, but each year is a blast. These guys gave me everything, and then some! Thank you for a great fall, my 10th one!
Last field project underway! Johnny Majors Practise field is getting sodded today after 20+ years of use. Big thanks to
@ThomsTurf
and
@IowaSportsTurf
for all their hard work making these field renovations a success!
As we bring this field down to the grade that was originally set in 1996, it’s cool to uncover the many layers of paint that remains in the root zone. This includes the blue paint from the old logos!
Snow/rain tarps down. 🤞hopefully we Dodge accumulating snow. Will leave these on through Sat morning. Start blowing heat under them tomorrow night to help keep surface from freezing....don’t want a skating rink Sat morning!
Blew off all debris, repaired divots, sprayed some Nitrogen to help it keep growing, and watering it in. Aerifying the morning. Grow covers back on in the afternoon.
#keepgrowing
Tarps kept the field dry, hoping rain stays away until after game. Field is brown (aka dormant), but our number one priority is still in tact. SAFETY! I expect it to play well today!!
The Ol’ Boy is ready for his first ISU football action of the new season. He took some punches last season, but He’s recovered and ready for 2019!!
@MidAm_EnergyCo
@CycloneFB
Operation “blow heat under tarp to keep grass/ground from freezing”. This is our equivalent to the “Hail Mary”. Doing what we can with what we have....
Lots of new improvements going on at ISU.
@IowaSportsTurf
is removing the old infield material and replacing with
@DuraEdge
and new sod on hillsides of Jack Trice Stadium.
Paint day...need the rain to not happen tonight!!! Or the rest of the week for that matter. Any chance
@NWSDesMoines
is wrong again this week?
#AskingForAFriend
Put out the rain/snow tarp this evening on top of the grow covers. Keeping the snow off and hopefully the two combined blankets will help keep the sub-freezing temps from freezing the field the next two days.

Replacing all the irrigation valves (Some that date back to 1996!) Also installing new 6" Hunter O.N. I-40's. Thanks to
@Hunter_Ind
for the new heads and valves and Meston Brothers Irrigation for the great install!
Did a quick root depth check on Jack (5-6”) All this rain had me nervous about shallow rooting. So far we are in good shape (guessing the cool weather is helping).
Blowing out today. Thought I could wait until after the season...tarp tomorrow so we can maybe not have ice by the end of the game Sat. Then tarp again after the game so we can keep the snow (5-10” predicted) off for next weeks game! With below freezing temps all week. Fun fun!
