Candidate for Congress in Michigan’s 7th District, Former Legislative Director for Gov Whitmer, former State Senator 23rd District, Father of 4, Public Servant.
🚨Our first TV ad: "Doing the Work"!
People are tired of loud talk and little action. This race is about leadership and how to actually deliver results. Here in Michigan, I worked across the aisle to lower costs and cut taxes. I'm running for Congress to build on that progress.
Michigan House Dems just won a house seat in the west side of the state that Dems lost by 26 points last election. Congrats Representative Carol Glanville. We will continue to fight to take back Michigan for the people! On to the majority in the Michigan House and Senate!
I can’t believe the Republican’s Coup plan in Michigan was to sneak in the side door... this was my same plan when I broke curfew as a teenager.... didn’t work then either.
Proud to share that as of January 1st I will serve as Legislative Director for Governor Gretchen Whitmer. I Look forward to continuing in public service and being part of a great team!
8 year ago
@jimananich
and I were elected to the smallest Democratic caucus in Michigan History. We quickly made a plan with then Senator
@DavidKnezek
to change that and to put the Senate on a path to majority. People thought we were crazy. But we kept fighting.
In every seat that will decide majority in the Michigan State Senate the Democratic candidate out raised their Republican counter part. In every race the democratic candidate has more donors. With this kind of energy, enthusiasm and hard work we will flip the Michigan Senate!
Any Republican elected official, who was at that rally and didn’t leave when the president downplayed the attack on our Governor, should be embarrassed. If you don’t call this out you are part of the problem.
🚨HUGE NEWS: Today, our campaign was added to the
@DCCC
’s Red to Blue program, which means we’re one of the competitive house races in the country. This November, let’s keep
#MI07
blue 🌊 and flip the House 🔴 ➡️ 🔵 !!!
I'm running for Congress, representing Michigan's 7th Congressional District. As a tireless advocate for Mid-Michigan, I believe in the power of collaboration to achieve our shared goals. Join me:
The cognitive dissonance it must take to think it’s unpatriotic for nfl players to take a knee to protest murder but not unpatriotic to call for secession because you lost an election is mind numbing.
Leaving my Senate office for the final time. Serving in the Senate has been the greatest honor of my life. Thank you to the people of the 23rd district for allowing me to serve!
I’m so excited to endorse my good friend
@CurtisHertelJr
to represent the people of Michigan’s 7th District in Congress! If we want to keep making progress on things like reproductive rights, gun control, and economic opportunity, we need representatives like Curtis who will
A democratic republic is being attacked tonight and a former President is praising it, and Fox News is defending it. A sad night for democracy. I stand with and pray for the people of Ukraine.
I'm honored to be endorsed by
@GretchenWhitmer
and proud of our work together to expand reproductive freedom, cut taxes, and reduce prescription drug costs.
People are tired of loud talk and little action in Congress. I'm running to get things done for Mid-Michigan.
If you voted for Pete Buttigiege in Michigan (or anyone else for that matter) and want to change your vote, you have the right to do so. Below is the process to do so.
Barrett may want to hide his radical prolife position on his website. But he can't hide the fact he wears this position right on his lapel. That pin represents the size of a fetuses feet at 10 weeks. Tom has bragged about being 100 percent pro life with no exemptions.
I'm honored to be the Democratic nominee for Congress in MI-07! Here in Michigan, we protected abortion rights and cut taxes.
I'm running to build on that bipartisan progress, and I need your help to make sure we beat my extreme opponent who wants a national abortion ban.
Republicans who drew districts in back rooms with no public discourse and guaranteeing themselves power have no room to complain about the non partisan redistricting commissions work. No one ever won anything by whining about having to compete.
I am so proud to have the endorsement of my friend
@MalloryMcMorrow
! Mallory and I share the same priorities of hard work, and fighting for our values.
Today, in a major win for Michigan’s children, adoption agencies that choose to contract with the State of Michigan will no longer be able to discriminate against same sex couples. Government has no business telling people what a family is or legitimizing discrimination.
Today is my last day serving as
@GovWhitmer
Legislative Director. It has been a privilege to work alongside her and our new legislature to deliver real results for MI families.
For those that reached out my son who is a freshman at MSU is safe. Unfortunately, too many in our community are not. No child should have to run, hide, or fight for their lives. This only happens America.
#EnoughlsEnough
This is the biggest joke of a hearing I’ve ever seen. House members limited in their questions but Rudy Giuliani can ask all the questions he wants. This is a farce and a legislative embarrassment.
On the campaign trail, I am often asked about why I'm such an optimist. I understand in today's world of partisan bickering and uncertainty it can feel exhausting. But my 4 kids give me hope.
There is nothing more optimistic than bringing children into an imperfect world and
Thank you for that deep, insightful analysis
@tombarrettmi7
🙄
It’s true I am not a woman. It’s also true that my opponent still *checks notes* supports banning abortion without exceptions, and voted 5x against creating thousands of good paying union jobs in Mid-Michigan!
#MI07
So proud to be on the floor of the Michigan Senate as Elliott Larsen Civil rights expansion passes. So many people's blood, sweat and tears were poured into this moment. This has been a fight 40 years in the making. Thank you
@MISenDems
@JeremyAllenMoss
A sure sign you have been a politician long enough if you can pretend this is real when your own fiscal agency says it creates at least a 700 million dollar deficit.
A sure sign someone has been in government too long is if they’re trying to convince you the bureaucracy can’t afford a $2.5 billion tax cut when it has an $8 billion surplus.
I don’t know what’s more sad; a President who attacks a deceased Congressman and his widow in their home state two weeks before Christmas or my friends on the other side of the aisle who will refuse to condemn it.
15 Rep MI House members joined the Anti-Reality Caucus by signing a brief to the Supreme Court to disenfranchise MI voters and overturn MI election. The First caucus meeting will be held in Edison County. Topics include Chemtrails, Flat earth, and special guest Big Foot.
After another senseless act of violence, the MI Senate GOP block votes on common sense gun safety legislation. These bills are common sense. Enough is Enough. The time for action is now.
Today will be the final day of session for the 101st Michigan state legislature. As tradition, I will be providing one final floor speech as I depart the Michigan Senate. These last eight years have been an incredible journey. 1/
We have so many people to thank. Our caucus that fought together with one voice. Our campaign staff that worked tirelessly. great candidates, some who won and some who lost, who left everything on the field.
On the eve of my final speech on the senate floor, MSU Archives was kind enough to send me this video of my father's final interview with Michigan Government Television. Here is a brief clip of where I call in and speak about my dad's service.
It was a great honor to share a few moments with Congresswoman
@GabbyGiffords
in my office this morning, talking about common sense gun safety legislation in Michigan.
This morning Governor Whitmer signed incredibly important COVID relief funding into law.
• $45 million to workers in impacted industries including restaurant and hospitality.
• $55 million to small businesses most impacted by the pandemic
• $3.5 million to Save Our Stages
Governor Whitmer’s strong actions is the most responsible thing we can do at this time. We need to stop this spread now. 12 positive tests now means there are likely many more. Social distancing is the only way to stop this with the limited amount of tests in this country.
Tom Barrett would like people to forget that he voted for a nearly 60% increase in the gas tax, and that I voted against it.
Unfortunately for him we have the receipts, just like Michiganders do after paying more at the pump this weekend.
As I traveled around
#MI07
this weekend, I noticed gas has gone way up again. Several stations throughout the district were either above or at $4/gallon.
My opponent,
@CurtisHertelJr
, supported a 45-cent gas tax increase. We can’t afford Hertel or Harris in Washington. Working
Here in Mid-Michigan, voters don't have to look far to see the corrosive impact of special interests in our politics. Tom Barrett voted to keep Michigan as the only state in the country that shielded drug companies from liability when they sold dangerous, defective drugs.
Why?
🚨 Endorsement Alert 🚨Today, we’re endorsing
@CurtisHertelJr
in his fight for
#MI07
families. Corporate greed has eroded Michiganders’ trust in Washington. Curtis's pro-democracy, anti-corruption leadership will help rebuild confidence in our government.
In a long-sought victory for equality, the MI Supreme Court ruled by a 5-2 vote, to extend protections to LGBTQ+ Michiganders by prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity 🧵
I don’t care how many crazy conspiracy theories they have. I don’t care what stunts they pull. We will never let them steal this election or your votes!
As we continue vaccinations, it’s important we don’t let up too soon. We’re getting closer to ending this pandemic, let’s keep it up.
Thank you, Michigan. Because of your commitment to protecting each other, we will get through this and come out stronger on the other side.
This weekend, I joined
@ShiawasseeDems
to knock doors in Laingsburg and talked with voters about important issues like lowering taxes and the cost of prescription drugs.
We’re going to win this race one door at a time. Join us ⬇️
Republican members of the Michigan House over-site committee just refused
@darrincamilleri
motion to swear in Rudy Giuliani before he testifies. So I guess not so interested in the truth.
Banning open carry in the Michigan Capitol Building and allowing concealed carry is literally telling people how to get guns into our Capitol to commit terror. Until we have metal detectors and guns are banned we are all at risk.
Joined Governor
@gretchenwhitmer
and some incredible volunteers this morning to get out the vote!
My opponent claims that the women of Michigan don’t care about abortion rights anymore — we are going to prove him wrong in this election 💪
#MI07
As of right now, abortion is still legal. Nonetheless, the current
#SCOTUS
draft is an outrageous assault on the rights of women to make decisions about their own bodies. We will fight to protect
#reprojustice
& preserve every Michigander’s right to choose.
Exchange I just had with Michigan state Rep. Daire Rendon.
Me: Is that a QAnon button on your shirt?
Her: It’s a flag with a Q on it.
Me: What does the Q reference?
Her: The Q is the highest level of security in the federal government.
The idea that so many teachers, nurses and other hardworking people put their blood sweat and tears into turning Virginia blue and are now being abandoned by Northam is just unacceptable. . via
@michiganadvance
For 40 years Senate Republicans have controlled the majority in the State Senate. This is the team that changes that. Thank you to the thousands of Michiganders who are donating, knocking doors, and taking back Michigan. On to majority!
Buried in all of this faux anger by Senate Republicans over the governors line item veto is the admittance that they are willing to hold unemployment benefits hostage unless they get a corporate tax cut. That is the real story of today.
Senator Hawley said Simon and Schuster canceling his book contract is an attack on his First Amendment rights. Why is it that people who claim to be Constitutionalists don’t understand a damn thing about it? I forgot when Madison demanded the right to be paid to write books.
For the first time in Michigan history the Michigan Senate has adopted a resolution to recognize Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Pride Month!
The Michigan Senate has been in session since 10 am. Currently, I am working to make sure that teachers and all school staff are paid during this shutdown. We should not leave session until we ensure that the dedicated employees of our school districts are taken care of.
I need your help to make sure we beat my opponent, MAGA extremist Tom Barrett. He wants to ban abortion and jail medical providers. We can’t let that happen.
Pitch in.
It's been an honor and privilege to serve the people of the 23rd Senate District for the past 8 years. Here are my final farewell words on the Senate floor today. 2/2
What an embarrassment to our country. If you are a Republican and not condemning this I don’t want to hear anythjng about being a “patriot” ever again.
Today, along with my colleagues
@JeremyAllenMoss
,
@SenPolehanki
, and
@JeffMIrwin
, I introduced legislation to end the discrimination in adoption law against LGBTQ couples and other prospective parents in Michigan.
Republicans telling their supporters to unplug tabulation machines and bring guns to threaten poll workers. The Insurrection didn't end on January 6th. It's the responsibility of every sane American to say enough is enough and protect our Republic!
Candidate for MI governor Ryan D. Kelley tells prospective poll workers to unplug tabulation machines if they suspect fraud in the 2022 election. State senate candidate Mike Detmer takes it a step further: “We need to be prepared to lock & load,” he says. “Show up armed.”
Today, I turned in my signatures to get on the ballot for Congress in Michigan’s 7th District!
Thank you everyone who collected signatures and to all who’ve signed. We went above and beyond our goal thanks to the legendary Blue Brigade.
Let’s keep up the good work!
Who wants to explain to Mellissa Carone that the 46th district, which she doesn’t live in, won’t exist after redistricting? It’s almost like she knows absolutely nothing about elections....
