With all the new eyes on the Dragon Quest series with the remakes of the Erdrick trilogy on the way, I thought why not share some tips, tricks and general info that can help newcomers to this amazing series for when they jump in 🧵

@bigbadbeefarino @JeongyeonFC @Wario64 It's like people forget 2 key figures of the series passed away, we got a new entry in the monsters series, new spin off with treasures, they began development on a 3 remake, decided to do a Erdrick trilogy remake instead, released the 3 remake, plus 10 still exists etc..

@Don_ErebusMoth @Wario64 ? Dark Prince featured characters from 4, including the Zenithian hero Solo from 4 (the male hero to be specific)

@ShawnSindulfo @Stealth40k PS4 support in general is beginning to be phased out, which is way overdue. I get it sucks for people but it IS last gen.

@Stealth40k There is no doubt it will. 11 was the first game ever announced for Switch back when it was the NX. 11 also released on 3DS, the system it sold best on actually. Only 7 and 8 (ignoring spin offs) launched outside Nintendo, though even they eventually had Nintendo remakes

@KirbysLastSnack DQ Treasures and Monsters 3 The Dark Prince were both switch exclusives (later getting steam releases) and DQ 10 offline released for the console. So Square Enix's sony exclusivity was only with regards to FF. Not DQ, in fact DQ had exclusivity with Nintendo this past generation

I will forever hold the belief that the OST for GS books 1 and 2 is Motoi Sakuraba's best work. Easily. The only game that comes close for me is Star Ocean 2. But his Golden Sun stuff... magical. From the GBA soundfont to those pan flute samples. Perfect.

So people who have played Dragon Quest 11 will be familiar with the item Lorelai's Harp, it was originally in 6. The version in 6 is why the one in 11 was disappointing to me. In 6 you get to explore the entire seafloor in a magic bubble... is this where One Piece got the idea?

@klazotron Hopefully the 3DS emulation is decent. It's weird though, in Japan they actually released the 3DS version of 7 on phones and it still has all the online features that shut off for 7 on 3DS last year (could download these instanced dungeons and really abuse them for items/exp)

Ok, more than ready to take on the boss of Spiegelspire now. My main party are sat around level 30, Hero is the advanced vocation Paladin, Carver is Gladiator and both Milly and Nevan are Sages... so yeah, pretty strong.

@statesminds Terry is peak Toriyama design, good stats, fights Nokturnus the strongest entity/demon/god in all of Dragon Quest, alone. Plus comes already with an advanced vocation in Gladiator, which if you haven't been grinding a ton is great

@klazotron If you just wanna play the DS DQ games the mobile versions of 4, 5 and 6 are great and arguably the "best" versions. 9 you can emulate and probably better to do so to more easily get the now lost DLC quests. The 3DS versions of 7 and 8 are brilliant though
