Not perfect but you get the idea. I try to be as quick as possible in my work flow while still being efficient. This is also good for beginers as it helps define the silhouette and lines of action.
IMO this kinda pointless for tracing unless you are trying to study it. I do it this way if I'm tracing for a part of my art. It's better to look at the edges and empty space for tracing and still being quick. Breaking it down is good for direct referencing though.

If you're tracing without care for construction, then absolutely. But if you're tracing a drawing in a way that mimics how you'd do the sketch, it can be invaluable for helping teach you how to use your shapes to construct it when you're learning.
