Ryukishi07 stated in an interview that Rika was BT's (his programmer and late friend) favorite character, so he enjoyed making her evil in Umineko to see his reaction. (2015)
This image of eyes used in the original version of Watanagashi-hen is photoshopped from Ryukishi07's friend, Tsubaki Naruse. Without his permission. (2002)
Mion's causal outfit includes a gun.
It's an illegally modified airsoft gun, but due to a real life incident Ryukishi chose not to have it be used in the story. Because of this, it was cut from many adaptations.
It would finally see canon use in Higurashi Sotsu in 2021.
Ooishi's reign of terror on the Higurashi Daybreak wiki.
Many images had captions of this nature, and while most of them are gone there are some that remain.
According to a 2005 interview, Higurashi was originally meant to be a typical visual novel w/ choices where you could do the Rena Route or Mion Route, and after doing both could progress to the Satoshi Route.
Also, Shion was named Tamane & was only later decided to be a twin.
In order, the first three Umineko characters that were designed were Battler, Shannon, and Natsuhi (whose design was originally meant for Beatrice). (2007)
Kyousuke Irie was originally intended to be the mastermind of Higurashi and even encased Satoshi's brain in formaldehyde.
Ryukishi changed this midway through writing Tatarigoroshi as he felt like Satoko had no allies. (2003)
Rena's "weapon" is an oversized nata, a Japanese gardening and wood-cutting tool.
It started out as an axe, but it was changed because a nata seemed more stylish.
The size and dimensions of the nata varies, sometimes mistakable for a hatchet or cleaver.
There was a fanmade interpretation of Oyashiro-sama's true form before Hanyuu Furude was finally revealed.
Long hair and horns were already decided for the real Hanyuu's design, but the hair color was taken from the fan interpretation!
Below is the earliest known art. (2005)
"Washi wo shinjite" is a meme in the Japanese Higurashi community, referencing Teppei saying "believe in me" like Rena, joking that he was a good guy all along.
The meme exploded in popularity with Gou, but it actually dates back to 2006 when the anime first released.
Battler Ushiromiya has an excellent birthday on Twitter as

takes over. (2023)

Each chapter of Higurashi's Question Arcs included a minigame created by BT.
The first was Renapan, wherein Keiichi studied Rena's punches to defeat her. This debuted the Soul Brothers Tommy & Kuraudo, who trained him.
The game is about dodging her punches. (2002-2004)
Ryukishi07 had a different title in mind for Ciconia When They Cry, but he believed it would be too strong of a hint.
He believes that it evokes a strong image, and when the story is finished readers would come to accept the name. (2019)
What do you think it could be?
In the planning stage of Umineko, Natsuhi was intended to have an affair with Gohda, but Ryukishi dropped this idea because his staff didn't like it.
In Confession of the Golden Witch, the affair idea is briefly revisited for Gohda but not with Natsuhi. (2007-2015)
Kyousuke Irie's ultimate ability 『MAID IN HEAVEN』is a reference to the Stand power from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure "Made in Heaven". (2006)
In 2008, he received a character song named after another Stand called "HEAVEN's Door".
Forgery of the Purple Logic is a manga Umineko arc and the only spin-off to feature the "When They Cry 4" title shared with Chiru.
Beatrice creates Erika Furudo as the detective character and plays a game vs Battler w/ purple truth. The answer is not officially known. (2013)
Mion Sonozaki was at some point meant to die before the GHD in Tsumihoroboshi-hen. (2005)
This may have been changed because it would not fit the themes or climax of the final work.
The first trailer for what would eventually be known as Higurashi Gou includes the final line of Keiichi Maebara's letter in Onikakushi-hen - which is never featured in the anime. (2020)
"To the one reading this, please uncover the truth. That is my only wish."
Higurashi Outbreak first appeared as an audio drama included in the Higurashi Daybreak OST, was then picked up by Studio DEEN for an adaptation, and only then received a VN in Higurashi Hou.
It never received a promised anime conclusion, but Hou completed it with Kamikashimashi.
Worth noting too: Because guns are so rare for civilians to own in Japan, there are no laws barring toys from looking like real firearms. That's why it isn't acknowledged; because it's just assumed it's a toy.
The original doujin release of Tatarigoroshi-hen included a sprite of Satoko completely nude after dropping her towel.
This has since (thankfully) been removed and never returned in any form. (2003)
Rather than "originally", I should say "at some point in development". It's clear the project went through various conceptual stages, as seen with Hinamizawa Bus Stop among other information.
I was looking and I'm not sure how I have bigots following this account. Please do yourself a favor and unfollow before you embarrass yourselves. Block too. Go find a series/creator that doesn't hate all that you stand for.
From Hinamizawa Famous Scene Investigation File 100.
Bonus fact, in Japanese, the word used for "director" at the end of Onikakushi-hen and the one used for "coach" are one in the same: "kantoku". This was a hint that got lost in translation.
Stated in Hinamizawa Famous Scene Investigation 100, Mamoru Akasaka was originally intended to die in Himatsubushi after learning of his wife's death, getting drunk, and committing suicide thanks to Hinamizawa Syndrome.
He was originally not intended to be brought back. (2004)

Talked with Ryukishi07 about that Rika Times Square moment and he was as surprised as ecstatic when I showed him the video. He did see a pic of it back then, but he thought it was just photoshopped w
#Higurashi
When Higurashi Meguri was first announced it only showed the kanji for "Meguri", which led to many thinking it was called "Jun", the other reading.
It wasn't until this post from Tomato later w/ the pronunciation shown that EN and JP fans alike found out the real name! (2021)
Takuya Hasegawa, sound engineer for DEEN Higurashi, is most well known for his work on every continued installment the Naruto franchise since the beginning.

Meera also translated the original video as shown above and continues to do various work for the WTC community!
Here's an image of the on-screen comments for Gou's ED all saying the line:
@luu_sama_
He shouldn't, because Sayo is standing right there.
In the VN/manga, the only people who "see" the corpse are Kanon and Hideyoshi who is an accomplice in EP1.

It's a different fragment. This can be shown in how the way Shion and Keiichi met was completely different.
In the VN, Rika tells Shion "I won't let you torture me *again*," implying that was the outcome in Watanagashi. However the anime removes the "again" iirc
@Stardust_Feller
The prototype of Higurashi in the form of a stageplays script. It was adapted into VN form with Higurashi Hou, and in the console version of Higurashi bearing the same name it was included with voice acting.
