By losing to Maryland, Rutgers avoided Detroit at Christmas time vs a MAC opponeny. They now get to go down to Jacksonville on NYE to play in one of the games before the College Football Playoff. What a world. Genius by Schiano to go 5-7 instead of 6-6.

The big lesson here for Pike & Rutgers moving forward is stop scheduling 6 Kenpom 300 teams. 3-4 is fine, I get you need to fill the schedule. But 6 is too many & it’s hurting you now. Go on the road, play a good team. If you lose by 30, it does not hurt you. At all.

One comp to Rutgers that's kind of maddening is Providence.
Best non-con win was beating Rider (KenPom No. 203) by 1 point at home. Lost to Q3 Seton Hall by 24 points at home in March. Went 4-6 last ten not missing a starter. Played 11 Q4 games. Went 4-8 in Q1 & 7-10 Q1/Q2.

RU fans remain Hall obsessed. Over 35K undergrads, & beat their chests over selling out an 8K-seat, on-campus arena. SHU has 6K undergrads. So regardless of full Rock capacity, a lower bowl, 10K-fan sellout is still 2K more at an SHU game than RU - with one sixth the students.
