Hi Jay 🙂 This isn’t a self-reported survey study. it’s a massive population-based cohort study using real medical records from 13.5 million people over 16 years in Ontario. That’s one of the most rigorous study designs in epidemiology. Saying it “admits to being flawed without causation” is misleading. Cohort studies don’t establish causality by design. But when you see the population-attributable risk fraction (PARF) for cannabis use disorder (CUD) and schizophrenia nearly triple (from 3.7% pre-legalization to 10.3% after), that’s a strong epidemiological signal. Even worse, young men aged 19-24 had 18.9% PARF in the post-legalization period meaning nearly 1 in 5 schizophrenia cases in that group were linked to cannabis use disorder. That’s not random noise. And while schizophrenia incidence stayed stable, psychosis NOS cases skyrocketed by 83.7% after medical cannabis liberalization. I’m not saying legalization is bad. But that’s a major public health shift.
