@CourtyardDairy
.
By buying cheese you've helped us sell 200kg of Kirkhams Lancashire cheese this week. A real positive difference for this guy, his family and farm.
(The week before he only sold 90kg for the whole of the UK!)
Over the last 3 months, by simply buying farmhouse cheese mail order YOU have enabled our family business and many farmhouse cheesemakers to keep going.
Without you buying mail order The Courtyard Dairy and many farm cheesemakers pictured here wouldn't have survived.
THANK YOU.
The Courtyard Dairy won 'Retailer of the Year' at the Farm Shop & Deli Awards and 'Cheese Shop of the Year' at The Guild Fine Food Awards!
It was nice to receive some positive news, after these last few months, which have been tough.
Thank YOU for your support.
70% of our business comes through through the door.
We've lost most of that.
But you can still support a small family business and traditional farm-made cheese.
We sell online and deliver nationwide -
Please do re-tweet and share.
When you buy farmhouse cheese, you buy from families like this.
This is Tom & Clare who make Fellstone cheese.
They farm the animals, milk them and make the cheese.
By purchasing farm cheese you make a positive difference to them, their family and their farm.
@herdyshepherd1
What we need to design is an animal that will wander around and seek out it's own forage, whilst doing that spread it's own muck and at the end of the day be capable of walking back to a milking parlour....
Help Save British Cheese. These three cheesemakers really need your support, it is key to their livelihood and keep them making cheese.

Bravo Andy & Kathy Swinscoe & the Courtyard team. Gt knowledge+hard graft👍
10 Years Ago.
Kathy and I left our jobs we rented a very small unit and bought a 2nd hand fridge from a kebab shop (all we could afford!)
10 years later, thanks to all your support we're still here.
Meet the monger - Jenny.
Before cheese, Jenny was a nurse in the NHS, so she's opted to leave us in the next few weeks to go back as part of the Corona effort, but she'll be back!
Her favourite cheeses are Fellstone, Etivaz, Baron Bigod and St James.
Whoop Whoop. Rated No. 1 Cheese Shop in the UK from The Times and The Sunday Times!!
@thetimes
Thanks to all the cheesemongers, cheesemakers, farmers and customers that allow us to champion proper traditional artisan cheese everyday.
Thrilled to be among such fabulous company in this weekend's FT in their 50 Greatest food stores in n the world ->
Thanks to our fabulous cheesemakers, cheesemongers, customers and staff, it's all down to them!
7 years ago, when we set up, their was not one farmhouse cheesemaker within 20 miles of The Courtyard Dairy.
Now there are 4.
All raw milk, all making traditional cheese.
In 2001, Mario arrived from Italy into Leeds/Bradford Airport, only speaking Italian with just £200 in his pocket and the promise of a friend's floor to sleep on. He had come to learn English for 6-months before going back to Sardinia.

This email from a family farm cheesemaker shows the difference YOU can, and are, making, by eating cheese and supporting independent business. Thank you for continuing to order cheese online from us.
"Daddy I miss my friends, can I do a virtual cheese tasting with them?"
After watching me do them every weekend for 10 months, Mary wanted to do one... guess the milk type, scoring cards and descriptors!
What a girl!
Believe in raw milk cheese?
Now's the time to show that support – it’s simple – eat some Kirkham's Lancashire cheese.
To support the Kirkham's, The Courtyard Dairy will pass 100% of money from the cheese sold in these boxes direct to the Kirkham’s:
In 124 days since lockdown began Andy's only left The Courtyard Dairy site three times as he's put his all into keeping the business going, so it was a real pleasure to goto
@RootsYork
last night for their opening. An incredible meal.
A sincere thank you to all those customers who brave the rain as we serve customers in an appropriate way.
My Mum is on hand to keep you entertained and give socially distant tasters while you wait.
You really are helping support keep farm house cheese, and us, going.
Thank you.
Job done for another Christmas.
A sincere thank you for truly supporting The Courtyard Dairy and farmhouse cheese.

These farms need your support more than ever so we can keep them going.
Thanks for your support of farmhouse cheese over the last 3 months.
The cheese shop and wine shop are open.
The café remains closed at this time as procedures are put in place to make the small space safe. It will reopen soon, with a current target of late July (date tbc).
Now employing 14 people full time, The Courtyard Dairy sells 1000s kg of British raw milk farm cheese every month.
I'd encourage you to follow your dream. It just shows you what can be achieved with a love for what you do, a bit of luck and a lot of hard work.
Cheesemaking royalty in today, having lunch to celebrate 52 years married!
Mr & Mrs Kirkham.
Always a pleasure and two of the cheese worlds most lovely people!
(I swapped lunch in return for 2 loaves of her homemade parkin, it can't be beat!)

Tune in on Instagram Live at 6.30pm!
When coronavirus hit, cheesemakers Martin & Nicola had to react. Their market disappeared overnight and St James is a volatile soft cheese.
So they went to making a firm ‘Tomme-esque’ sheep’s cheese that will last longer: Crookwheel was born. More at:
Ripe Brie OFFER 2 x 250g Baron Bigod just £6
These mini (250g) Baron Bigods are perfectly ripe and ready for consuming! The cancellation of many staff party’s and emptier restaurants in December has meant lower soft cheese sales than expected.... buy at:
Farmhouse cheese is tasty – raw milk, heritage breeds, traditional grasses, pasture feeding, and slow, ancient cheese-making techniques quite simply make for unbeatable flavour.
But buying farm-made cheese also has wider benefits.

Lancashire and Eccles cake Santa?
That's what he's getting round ours.
Have a great Christmas everyone.
Thanks for supporting farmhouse cheese.
Andy, Kathy and everyone at Courtyard Dairy.
When we opened the shop, we did it by splitting a Kirkham's Lancashire, that's how key it is to The Courtyard Dairy
It was our best selling cheese - in every department - shop, mail order and wholesale;
The Kirkham family feel like part of our family.
40p out every £1 spent with The Courtyard Dairy stayed within 40 miles last year.
We analysed the accounts and worked it out - shopping local really does help keep our rural community vibrant.

Three years ago I bought this after being told specifically not to by Kathy (she went to bed, I had a beer ... end of story).
It turned out to be a great buy, I was forgiven.
However last week I did a similar thing and bought something strange... it arrives tomorrow....
Thrilled to announce we've won Best Farm Shop
@Yorkshire_Life
Food & Drink Awards!
Full story in their magazine, but the whole team here are flattered and honoured to be awarded the winner!
Cheddar... Defected... Yet, the tastiest cheese we have on the counter right now.....
Just split this Hafod.
What a delight it is.
Not clean at all.
In many cases this would be rejected & frowned upon.
As Kathy would say to me, "thank goodness it's not all about looks."
In my humble opinion one of Britain's best, but also most unknown farmhouse cheeses is back in season: SummerField Alpine.
Made only in summer from traditional Shorthorn cows feeding lush diverse organic pasture. We've just realised the June 2019 vintage:
Change is coming!
Next week we will start enlarging the shop into the old museum space. We will remain open as normal but this will enable us to offer you a better and bigger shop this Christmas! Less queues, more cheese!
(A new format of museum will return late 2021!)
Just split a 20 month old Killeen (on the left), we specially aged for
@BlkSwanOldstead
as a one off.
Normal Killeen on the right (3 month).
Pretty different in taste and looks (look at that weight loss!).
The 20 month version is a very special beast.
Last night we got all the staff together on our lawn to say "Thank you" from Kathy, I and cheesemakers across the land for their hard work over the last year and in making The Courtyard Dairy the place it is.
It was of course an obligatory wet BBQ....
Staff training is important!
Even during Corona.
Packing boxes isn't as much fun - so we make sure we still have weekly cheese training sessions!
I love learning and spreading the knowledge about cheese and it's important to keep the staff enthused too!
Snack for the train ... I've got a wee bit of 'pocket-cheese'; going to eat it like cake later!
🤣
Best journey snack there is! Been done since at least the Roman's.
There are many great companies that sell farm made cheese, they often support different farms & producers to us and are just as worthy of your support.
In particular these 4 were very helpful to me this week as we try to adapt to delivering more in order for our shop to survive.
Our Bermondsey and Borough shop layouts are set up for optimal physical distancing. As ever we have all the farmhouse cheese you could dream of and plenty of provisions too.
