@clhubes You should do what's best for you! Have loved your content over the last few years though. We have kids of similar ages, so it has been wonderful reading the musings of somebody who 100% understands how simultaneously fun + frustrating parenting can be.

My vision: universities start their own journals. If Cornell has a great psych department, they start the Cornell University Press Psych Journal. Grad students take a class centered on editing submissions with the professor who takes lead on the journal. The university library pays to host the journal/takes care of admin. Everything is free/open access. Universities save massive amounts of money by running the journals themselves, and the same grad students go from reviewing articles for free to reviewing articles for course credit.

@deanwball I loved this juxtaposition between the massive Stargate investment and how the Head of UK's clean energy mission says “I’m skeptical about some of the projections of future power demands from AI”
Same 24 hours: In Westminster: Head of UK govt clean energy mission says “I’m skeptical about some of the projections of future power demands from AI” In Washington: new $100 billion (yes, billion) data center investment, aiming for $500billion within 4 years. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

@MartyUlrich We should maintain national competitiveness and put a ton of value on US national security. Doesn't mean we can't innovate responsibly, doesn't mean we can't try to cooperate with China. Just like how we have consumer protection laws and international weapons treaties.

@YonatanCale True true, but what are the most likely specific tasks? Programming? Analysis of textual data? I feel like the "specific tasks" will encompass many of the most valuable skills in the labor market.

@_brianpotter I loved this piece, Brian! Just not sure about the cooling method you mentioned; "chillers" are energy inefficient/outdated; modern data centers use direct to chip cooling for GPUs (fluid cooled by outside ambient air, not mechanical chillers). That's how you get low PUEs ;)
