@MichaelShurkin Crudely, if we are too small to cover all bases, should we risk political irrelevance by focussing on fighting, or invite dissipation of effort (and opening a conventional asymmetry) by adapting towards a greater range of non-combat activity?

Port Operations. Here’s the last of the equipment for Op CABRIT Mission Ready Training leaving Emden in Germany and en route to Sennelager yesterday. Above Battlegroup level, it’s all about setting the conditions for the combined arms fight... @siabod_runner @ComdCTG @ComdUKeFP

US ‘MDO 2028’ and UK ‘Integrated Operating Concept’ aren’t identical, but they’re similar enough that this excellent commentary applies to both. The IOpC advocates a ‘theory of victory’; this (amongst other things) offers a start point for formulating one.

The brigade sniper cadre completed today after 9 weeks of hard training and ruthless testing. That’s 13 newly badged snipers available for reconnaissance and precision attack, day and night and in all weather conditions. Great soldiers and priceless assets; proud of them all.

This is a thoughtful interpretation of the N-K war which challenges the sterile ‘tanks are obsolete’ narrative. Warfare evolves, creating new asymmetries and vulnerabilities which demand a corresponding combined arms evolutionary response. Vulnerable & obsolete are not synonyms.

Thread: Some people are questioning whether the war in Karabakh proves that the tank is obsolete. A better question to ask is how Azerbaijan was able to punch through NKR's defenses, seize fortified positions, and exploit that success in the south?

‘Europe should look carefully at the military lessons of this conflict, and not dismiss it as a minor war between poor countries. Most of the EU’s armies...would do as miserably as the Armenian army in a modern kinetic war. That should make them think – and worry’.

He’s also (as you are no doubt well aware Mike) the Patron Saint of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers - who have been Armoured Infantry since Centurion was a rank not a tank. There he is, sticking it to the big lizard on the regimental cipher. #forenglandandsaintgeorge

The Bn is too modest to point out that this move was delayed by C-19 from earlier this year and then conducted while the HQ and two companies have been (and are) deployed to Liverpool. Hugely impressive flexibility and forbearance from soldiers and families alike. Thanks 1 Yorks.
