The Florida Panthers begin their preseason one month from now, so it's as good as time as any to announce what's next...
Welcome to Pucks and Palms, my new substack and your new home for in-depth Panthers coverage.

Panthers slip in “Humble” by Kendrick Lamar on the arena sound track.
Reminder that the Oilers skate out to “Push Ups” by Drake (the Kendrick diss) before every game.
Paul Maurice immediately walks into the stage and says “30 fucking years.”
He then looks at his wife and says “30 fucking years for this woman being married to this asshole.
This was an inside joke between Matthew and I.
He told me on the ice after Game 7 next time I wrote anything negative about him, I have to call him “Stanley Cup champion Matthew Tkachuk.”
And, yes, I remembered.
The Panthers are welcomed to the rally area with “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar.
Reminder that the Oilers skated out to the diss track Drake lost with before each of their home games in the Cup Final.
Vladimir Tarasenko confirmed that the Florida Panthers were the only team he was willing to waive his no-trade clause for.
“This was the only place I was thinking about.”
I feel like introducing Sarah Nurse as “cousin of Darnell Nurse” every time she is mentioned is completely asinine considering she is the most accomplished of the two.
(No offense to Darnell, of course, his cousin is just really good at hockey.)
I asked Paul Maurice what his cats’ names were.
“I can’t have people prowling around my yard looking for the cats. Can’t give out names.
“The cats are not available for interview.”
Paul Maurice said he still has not seen the overtime winner.
“I don’t know if you’ve been to the maze down here, but our video guy is three zip codes away from our locker room because somebody needed popcorn. So, I haven’t seen my video guy. Not sure he still works for us.”
Sasha Barkov on Matthew Tkachuk: “Everyone sees what he is doing on the ice but what he does off the ice is eye-opening.”
Tkachuk: “That was very nice of you.”
The Florida Panthers will be playing their preseason game against the Los Angeles Kings in Quebec City on Oct. 5.
Coming to Quebec as Cup Champions after years of people around hockey saying the Panthers need to move there is absolute poetry.
.
@GeorgeRichards
: "Did that feel like a Playoff type game?"
Sam Reinhart: "Unfortunately, the way my career has gone, I can't quite comment on that."

In this sequence, Matthew Tkachuk got:
— cross-checked by Brayden McNabb
— interfered with and held by Adin Hill
No call made, while the Panthers were held up by the blue line on a power play, waiting for Tkachuk to skate onside.
Sergei Bobrovsky: “In my first interview, they asked me why I want to come to Florida. I said ‘I want to win the Cup and I want to do it here.’ Now here we are.”
Patric Hornqvist called Claude Giroux a “shorter Barkov” last week.
Giroux: “I told him instead of calling me a shorter Barkov, he could start calling him a bigger G. It didn’t go over too well.”
Sasha Barkov had the decapitated head of his own bobblehead at his locker today.
He picked it up after someone threw it on the ice.
“It’s very sad. Can’t believe someone would do that.”
Spencer Knight said that he was following the Florida Panthers during their playoff run and he heard the “Knight” chants during the anthem.
“[Panthers fans] are just great people. They respect you as a person, and honestly, it’s so much fun playing in front of them.”
Paul Maurice refused to answer any questions regarding the Panthers clinching a playoff spot.
He was not pleased with tonight’s effort.
“Today is free quote fucking day. Take whatever you think I might say and use it. I won’t bitch about it.”
On the eve of the Florida Panthers’ Autism Acceptance night, there’s something I want to get off my chest.
I am autistic.
That is often hard for me to accept after all of the torment I went through after people found out about it.
My Story: ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Scrolling through the stuff I missed on Twitter, the part of this where so many Canucks fans were all-in on the Panthers because of Roberto Luongo is so wholesome.
Seems like there’s a lot of good people out there in Vancouver.
The Florida Panthers confirmed that Steve Goldstein, Randy Moller, Katie Engleson, Jessica Blaylock and Ed Jovanovski will be returning for local broadcasts on Scripps.
Matthew Tkachuk said he has had about three hours of sleep total in the past three days.
I have no idea how he is powering through this Drive Thru session right now.
Per the website, the Miami Marlins’ ‘Hockey Night’ giveaway tickets are sold out.
The Florida Panthers are such a hot ticket in South Florida that they have convinced people to go to a Marlins game.
I just wanted to thank you Florida Panthers fans for embracing a kid from Long Island and following along for the journey for the past three years.
I have some news to share next week. It’s scary, and exciting. The one thing I can say is that I am not leaving South Florida.
#FlaPanthers
fans let out what has probably been the loudest mid-anthem “Knight” chant of the season in solidarity for Spencer Knight as he enters the NHLPA’s player assistance program.
Saw a lot of fans try to set this up on Twitter today and they made it happen.
In the many brief interactions I’ve had with Oilers fans on the way to the dinner spot, I must say, they are some incredibly nice people.
Edmonton’s a nice city.
Can confirm that Mackie Samoskevich has made the Florida Panthers’ opening night roster.
“It’s nice to see the hard work pay off,” he told me today. “When I grew up, my parents told me when you work hard, good things happen.”
I hope the Calgary Flames address the fact that they used mental health as an excuse to cover for Dillon Dube.
A whole three days of cover for Dube was not worth it for the inevitable damage it now causes other players, and people, who need mental help.
Four NHLers – Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube & Cal Foote – have been directed to surrender to London police to be charged with sexual assault in connection with an alleged incident that occurred during a 2018 Hockey Canada event.

The Florida Panthers announce that the Stanley Cup Championship parade will be held on Sunday at 11 a.m.
It will be held in Fort Lauderdale on a route extending through A1A.
This afternoon’s Florida Panthers game was played in front of a sell-out crowd of 19,359… on a football Sunday.
Dolphins bye week or not, that’s pretty darn good.
I feel so bad for the folks at the New Jersey State Police because they are getting inundated with calls just because someone decided to try to report something first despite having zero evidence.
This is why journalistic integrity is important.
Spoke with the New Jersey State Police and was informed they are getting bombarded with phone calls and cannot release any information at this time.
Basically they can not confirm or deny the rumor that Johnny Gaudreau has passed.

Paul Maurice on Anton Lundell: “He was a plus-three and he made a play I didn’t like —“
He stopped himself to say:
“That’s just the coach, what an ass. He made one play I didn’t like and that’s what I bring up. He played one hell of a game.”
Ryan Lomberg just walloped Keegan Kolesar in a fight.
Kolesar fractured Matthew Tkachuk’s sternum in the Stanley Cup Final last year, then called the Panthers soft.
There’s some history there…
Paul Maurice said that Eetu Luostarinen broke his tibia in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference final.
He tried skating on it in practice, but he just couldn’t go. He does not need offseason surgery to heal it.
With all of the craziness going on with free agency, I haven’t had the chance to announce my own free agency news, but here it is.
I will be leaving Florida Hockey Now and exploring other options to provide you with Florida Panthers coverage for next year:
Talked to a lot of folks, got a lot of stories to tell, but before I do that, I just wanted to thank everyone for their support for the past three years.
You guys are the absolute best. You deserve every bit of this moment right now.
Sunrise, Fla. is a hockey town.
The Florida Panthers have sold out Amerant Bank Arena for the second game in a row.
There’s a sell-out crowd of 19,628 here tonight.
Third of the season through eight home games.
Paul Maurice said he used to get film from opposing teams on VHS tapes when
@GeorgeRichards
asked about 2000s night.
Me: “What’s a VHS?”
Paul: “I want you to feel the foul language that I’m sending you.”
