[Non-Tech Post] Ive been thinking a lot about how important the confidence of kids, especially young girls, is. Morgan is 8, and Hayley is 11... and every day I see all these moments where life pops up to point out the areas they "fall short" in. It's easy to get caught up in all the things you want them to DO or BE. Im thinking a lot lately about how that must look, or feel, from their perspective. I think of how I feel experiencing those things as an adult and how hard it is. I tell friends often, the single most important thing in my life right now is to make sure those girls goto bed at night feeling like they aren't defined by the areas they come up short in. That they are smart, strong, valued, funny, and beautiful. Its a hard balance, looking at how to push them to do better in the areas they aren't doing well in - but also to let them know that those things aren't the things that define them. That they still are smart even though they might have a bad test, or that they are still good at a sport even if they didn't play well in a game. That they are a good friend even though sometimes people don't treat them that way. I hope over the next few years I can teach them to see the things they do well. The things they've grown in. I hope I can teach them their own value, and how to surround themselves with people that value them the same way.

Top 10 parenting core memory night tonight. Through a weird series of scheduling things my girls ended up getting to play against each other in basketball for the first time. Youngest held her own, played brave. Heart is beyond full.

Raising girls is hard. I never realized how much of the world comes at them fast, and how delicate the balance of growth vs confidence development is. Big reminder tonight. Above everything else, my job is to make sure these 11 and 8 year old girls know their value.
