The Magic will unveil a new jersey and court on Friday at the Amway Center for the upcoming season in celebration of 35 years, the team announced. Nick Anderson, Bo Outlaw, Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis and Ryan Anderson are expected to attend.
On a night when DeMar DeRozan scored 41 points, the Bulls vet recognized Jalen Suggs:
"He is a hell of a talent. I'm a fan of his. ... (I just told him) to keep going: 'You're a hell of a talent. You can be very successful.' I'm rooting for him."
Doc Rivers on Jamahl Mosley and the Magic:
They play hard and they're unshakeable. You get up and you think you got them, they just keep coming. That is coaching. He is doing a hell of a job.
The WNBA and CBS Sports announced today a multi-year partnership in which CBS Sports Network will televise live WNBA games beginning with the upcoming 2019 season.
The Magic originally chose president Jeff Weltman to represent the team on stage but changed it to Jamahl Mosley.
Why the change?
"I haven't been very good at this," Weltman said. "Coach was feeling lucky and we let him roll the dice and, tonight, he is the Coach of the Year."
Jonathan Kuminga said today he was worked out in front of the Thunder, Cavaliers, Raptors and Magic. The Warriors will fly into Miami where he is training to watch him, as well.
One name I’ve heard gaining some draft buzz is Memphis’ Lester Quinones. He recently worked out for a few teams and shot incredibly well, going 84-100 from 3-point in one. He is still mulling his draft decision over but is a name to watch as a possible mid-second-rounder.
Former UCF C Tacko Fall said it would mean a lot to be drafted by the Magic:
"They have been right down the road since I was in high school. Four years at UCF, they have always been around. I’ve been here a lot. I’ve been to a lot of games. I’m close to a couple of players."
Anthony Black spoke with the media today after his first practice of training camp with the Magic. He said everyone on the roster has helped him and Jett prepare:
The Magic have several activities planned for Wednesday versus Houston:
-Shirt distribution to every fan
-First “Classic Night”
-Two former Magic players in attendance to be recognized
-Unique intro sequence with full team introductions
-Fan Fest on Church starting at 5pm
Nick Anderson, Bo Outlaw, Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu, Jalen Suggs and Ryan Anderson each wearing the jersey from their era as the Magic unveiled their new look
Dallas trading Harrison Barnes during the middle of the game and not pulling him is yet another example of the business side of basketball and another reason why I will never fault a player for trying to control where they play.
Cole Anthony on his work over the summer:
"If I told you everything I did this summer, I'd have to kill you ... I told my camp before the summer started, 'I want to be the best version of myself I can possibly be.' From (June 1), we just locked in and worked every single day."
Tristan da Silva on Franz and Moe Wagner:
It is funny because one of my good friends I played with in Munich is their best friend. It is great to join that group; makes it feel a little more homey. I've already been in contact with both of them.
Jeff Weltman said it is a good draft this year and the Magic have a lot of options to consider at 6 and 11:
“We can go in a number of ways, both sticking to the draft or moving around a little bit. There are several options in front of us.”
Paolo Banchero on eventually getting Suggs and Isaac back:
Both of those guys are really talented and can help us a lot. ... We are excited to get them back and see what we look like. We've got a deep team and I feel like with those guys back, it makes a difference.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will replace Detroit Pistons guard Derrick Rose in the 2020 Skills Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 15, the NBA announced.
Of all the bigs on the Magic roster, Wendell Carter Jr. said Bol Bol might be the best shooter of the group.
"No one can really block it. He shoots it so high so I think Bol is probably the best shooter but we're all pretty good shooters."
Key dates for the Orlando Magic:
Oct. 2: Media day
Oct. 3: Start of training camp
Oct. 10: Preseason Game 1 - at New Orleans
Oct. 12: Preseason Game 2 - at Cleveland
Oct. 17: Preseason Game 3 - vs. New Orleans

Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley said the entire locker room was excited for Franz Wagner's career night because they know how hard he works on a daily basis.
Jett Howard said he was bothered a lot by his ankle injury. He estimated he was playing at 50% during the last stretch of the season, but just wanted to gut it out and play as much as he could in a Michigan uniform. He said it affected his lateral quickness, conditioning, etc.
Mo Bamba on not hiring an agent:
"I’m big on relationships so I didn’t want to burn any
bridges with any agencies. That may be something I very much do explore later on down the road. For now, I was very big on my pre-draft process and how methodical everything needed to be."
