For those wondering why I am making an acoustic modem and passive/active sonar systems: I need an acoustic modem because I want to control submarine drones deep underwater where traditional RF control does not work, but acoustics travel well. I need a way to send command data to them and maybe even receive (limited) data back. The submarine drones need to be able to "see" underwater using passive sonar so they dont crash into objects or the environment. Active sonar allows the submarines to actively ping and investigate specific objects that might not be easily found with passive sonar. Although using active sonar on a submarine is usually not recommended since it might damage sealife and also gives away the submarine's position, it is still a good feature to have just in case it is ever needed.

@0victorem0 Cool! Popoto modems are so expensive though. Around 10k each.

@MarkZaccaro Probably under the guise of free OB/GYN health checkups for all the women. Women would have shown up because they might have thought that free government health care is good. Doctors could then complete the pap smear and whatnot, but also insert an IUD.

Cool tech. Wonder if I can make something similar for navigating a submarine.

GPS-free visual-inertial navigation in real time on Raspberry Pi 5 with a consumer-grade IMU and camera (and this is not even the slowest CPU this runs on!)

@realJayRiley Always smart to take the modular approach. Reed solomon might be overkill for a hobby project.
