This is spot on. Never understand the constant yelling in the game. If you stay calm, your players seem to stay calm. They are already playing with internal and unnecessary external pressure. We should not add to it.

I am so proud of them. Playing defending D1 Regional Champion. Games against them have not been close for our young program. We fell 2-1 with one of their goals being a PK. We are growing as a program, and closing the gap on the competition.

The rematch did not disappoint! Playing Lemon Bay, back to back State Final 4 participants. Both great teams trading goals, ending in a 2-2 draw! I felt like we played dominating soccer, and our best TEAM soccer this season.

It's amazing how players respond when they know you believe in them. I had a coach in 9th Grade who showed belief in me. I've never forgotten his words and actions and try my best to treat my players the same way. How you treat people means everything, in sports and life!

Some coaches force players to not play HS by threatening to cut or eliminate their playing time. The chase of the Scholarship v. Life Learning opportunities wins out and the player quits HS, and misses out on an amazing experience. Transactional v. Transformational Coaching.
Paid club coaches who need a monthly income (wholly understandable BTW, but there are other ways to do that) tell kids that HS ⚽️ will ruin them, too many games in a congested schedule & poor coaching.
Meanwhile I see some of those same club coaches having those same kids fly

Communication between teammates can be constructive, and positive. Telling a field player to get a better touch is like telling the GK to make the save on the ball they missed. Both want to succeed. Like asking water to not be wet. Uplift with your words.

It depends. Is it the DOC's rule or the Head Coach's rule? I loved HS soccer, but that was the one thing that frustrated me with some club coaches. That's the one thing I don't miss. I'd talk with the DOC first for clarity. Let these kids enjoy the HS experience.

Coaches have to be cognizant of the way we talk to and treat our players. It is so easy to destroy a player's confidence in the way we speak and act. When players have lost their confidence, I make sure they know they will borrow my belief in them until they get theirs back.⚽
