Forget about the dangers of this sport or that sport. The research shows that the true dangers exist when kids are not supervised between 3-5 PM. All kids need to be in after school activities/programs.

CA coaches it’s unfortunate that our Governor has given no indication or direction on HS sports resuming. It leaves us with little to tell our athletes. Be a leader & be there for them. Show them how to keep working hard despite the struggles.
I really believe this quote from Bill Parcells is fitting for football and especially in conquering life. “Losers assemble in small groups & complain, winners assemble as a team & find ways to win”.
Note to HS athletes: use social media as a positive platform Show all that’s + in your life or sport. Show all the challenges you have overcome & the great accomplishments. Be creative, be funny etc but don’t bring drama.
Do arm curls have anything to do with winning football games? No‼️ Does keeping kids excited and enthusiastic about training sessions have anything to do with winning games? YES‼️ Today we are incorporating a FrEAk arms session into our workout.
This will be by far the most challenging season for all sports with regards to logistics of facilities, practice times, game scheduling etc. As coaches we always talk about how to handle adversity. Our players will no doubt emulate the way we handle this season. Walk the walk!
HS Ballers if your sole focus is on being a great player your missing the boat. If you focus on being a great human being and having great attitude & effort in everything you do, you will ALWAYS reach your potential as an athlete & also be the teammate your brothers need.

I don't want to hear how soft this generation of kids is. So many kids began a transition literally over night of online learning and not having the interaction of friends on a daily basis. I actually believe our future is bright with this generation.
Athletes will see a huge difference in body composition by changing the beverage of choice to water & adding vegetables to their nutrition. I challenge all HS athletes to try this.

Sixteen schools at Beaumont today. 7 on 7 and Line competition. Highly competitive. No fights; no arguments. Not one problem other than snack bar ran out of Red Vines.
High school student-athletes today college coaches are back on the road recruiting. Make sure you are in class, dressed appropriately & give a firm handshake when meeting a coach.
My wife said it's a little overboard that I created basically what looks like a practice plan for the day at home. I told her I could always use the segment timer as well.
Coaches it’s our responsibility to teach our players what real work looks like. For athletics but more important, for life! Let’s put real work in with our effort, intensity & focus.
I will never lie or cheat for a player or put a player before the team however I will always fight, scratch and claw for every kid in our program to be the men we see them capable of becoming.

Aways a tradition to have our Sr class leave the field last following their final game. A chance for all our players & coaches to shake each of their hands. A lot to be said about this Sr class and the work they put in.
Each week I provide my players with a google form which gives them all the info they need for the week (workouts, meetings) in addition to providing me feedback on things like sleep patterns, eating habits and they set their short term commitments for the week on the form.
Parents & athletes note it’s not always an easy path. Stetson Bennett began as a walk on at Georgia. He transferred out to a JC & eventually came back to the team. He had to beat out some pretty good QBs. Tonight he QB’d the Bulldogs to a National Championship.
Just got totally cheated out of film. After meeting the coach at the AM/PM I got back to the school and one of the VHS tapes is the wrong game. Said no coach in this millennium. 😏😂

HS coaches don’t limit your off season learning from strictly the big colleges. So much to learn from many other levels. Finding out that JC guys are incredible at simplifying some great schemes so kids can play right away.
Cougar family even though our season ended tonight the sadness pales in comparison to how proud I am of the foundation that was set. Thanks to all our players and coaches for the work they put in to make this an incredible 1st year together.

I love using Google forms each week with our team. The players fill them out on Sunday. Gives me a chance to see how everyone is doing, get a pulse of the team, provide info for the week and have them set some goals for the week as well.
This week is game week all across the state of California. Whether you are scrimmaging or playing a game you all have WON! To get to this point has taken so much grit, perseverance & a total team effort. Congrats to all the players, coaches, ADs, Admin & parents‼️
Athletes at the HS and JC level start setting some goals for the fall with regards to grades, speed/agility, strength and conditioning. The theme for this fall should be Development.

Exit Interviews are always a great way to start the off season. Before you can set your goals for next year you need to take note of where you are so you can chart your path. Meet with each player and coach. Evaluation& feedback.
Student-Athletes you should not be concerned with star rankings, media attention,camps, all star games, gear, free trips etc.. You should be thinking about destroying the player who is in front of you on a consistent basis and that will tell it all on FILM!!!
Listening to Matt Hamner from Weber State. When he coached HS would lift all his guys in the morning because he wanted them to play other HS sports. Loved having multi sport athletes.
