It’s that time of year again. Choctaw High School Youth Basketball Camp. Over 100 kids attended last years camp and it was a great time. Get signed up early using the QR code attached to the flyer. Taking campers up until the first day of camp.

If you can’t be coached at the high school level how do you ever think you’ll make it in college... Just a FYI college coaches get paid a whole lot more to care less about your attitude and they have a lot more options when it comes to replacing players.

Yes, it’s cool to say I played in front of D1 coaches but if you have 10 D2 players that doesn’t help any of them. Put your players in front of coaches at their level. It’s dogs at every level and the ultimate goal is to get a discounted education.

I scared my little girl today because she has never sat so close to my bench. I responded to a ref in a way she doesn’t see me treat her or her mama so I had to apologize and tell her I’ll be better. Lessons not losses!

What you can’t say is Choctaw didn’t earn their chance to play for the championship! WE believed in ourselves and had multiple opportunities to make that come true. Nobody gave us a chance! We’ll take a quick break and get back to work. A lot of first this season.

Yes it scrimmage season but please relax. It’s a 20min running clock in most situations and us as coaches are looking at more than the final score. Do you fit in the rotation, do you know the sets, can you defend, can you make plays for others, can you do more than TAKE shots...

I love what I do in the gym but this is the reason why I decided to not coach this summer. I’ve been blessed to help a lot of kids get a chance to play at the next level but her smile is everything to me. I’ll be back to summer ball but right now this is what I’m on. Experiences!

Reality is only 7 boys in Oklahoma’s 2018 class went D1 on full rides, only 8 boys between 2019-2021 have received a D1 offer... So everybody can’t be slept on. Be realistic with your level, w/your work ethic, w/your attitude and stop comparing your process with others. 🤔

Highlight of the night I had a kid ask to come out of the game so a kid that doesn’t play could get a few minutes. I asked him if he was sure and to make sure before making the sub. Speaks volumes for who he is as a person and how his parents raised him.

It amazed me how many people talked about the fact that I play every kid on my rosters in June. Trust me I want to win more than most but development is top 2 on my list. Winning, scholarships & developing great young men all run together for me.

I’m proud of everyone of them. 9/10 played in Area, 6/10 made state, 2/10 will play for a ship but all 10 will play at the collegiate level. OSU (FB), Tulane (FB), N. TX, Vanderbilt, Tenn Tech, OCU, Seward & waiting on the last 3 to decide which all 3 have D1 talent. C/O 2021!

This senior class came in with me to Choctaw & we have went a step further each year. I made them a promise they would leave here putting us in a better place and they did just that. They don’t understand now but they’ll see later the impact they made on this programs growth.

You will not find a harder working squad. We love our kids more than we love the game and I wouldn’t want it any other way. The fact that three of us came from the same place where most of our friends/associates didn’t make it out means that much more to me.

Please don’t get these kids hurt rushing them back to playing. I don’t care what drills you doing in the driveway or who you working out w/it’s going to take a few weeks of real team work to get ready. Especially the younger guys who play 8/9 games in 3 days in some events.

You can look at both the boys and the girls side of 6A and it shows you rankings mean nothing when you get to this point. You only have to win 1 game at a time and then adjust for the next day. That’s why we play the game. You have to love this time of the year!

Love the fact that Trae comes back to bring attention to the Skins League. If you love the game you’ll play anywhere it’s good hoop. He’s playing against other pros and bringing attention back to his city. Wish kids could see more NBA guys from the state come home and hoop.

When making your college decision do your research and make sure you want to be there through the good & bad. Research the conference, coach, roster, fans, weather, etc. Because the last thing you want to do is regret it. Make sure it’s the best fit for you for years to come!

90% of the kids/parents don’t understand most high level players have been some of the better players for a few years. Yes, you have late bloomers but that’s a low % of players. You can’t erase 15yrs of bad habits in 6 months. It takes a lot of the right work.

We as a culture divided OK between OKC and Tulsa but it’s bigger than that when it comes to 🏀. OKC gave us so much grit if you’re from here but Tulsa gives you that same grind. 405 & 918 are 1 when it’s about moving as one. It’s hard enough for us to get outside of our own city.
