College Esports - Do 👏🏼 Better 👏🏼
After almost 10 years, and a journey around the country, it’s time to return home to the great State of Michigan!
I’m thrilled to announce, I have been offered and accepted the position of Assistant Director of
@UMichEsports
and Intramurals at the University of Michigan!
HS Esports PSA - If a college coach is telling you “I can help you go pro if you come to my school”, ask them what players they’ve helped go pro. Then, research if they were already near pro level before college🤔
No college coach is turning diamond or lower players into pros
A Coach = Has real life experience, a mentor, understanding & knowledge of the game(s), firm & consistent in program structure & discipline, a leader from all sides.
Being a pro at a game does not make you a coach. Especially if the game is the only thing you've ever known.
The only “path to pro” collegiate esports should be worried about, is the path to becoming professionals in the degree field your students are majoring in.
Even the top tier D1 college athletics don’t sell their athletes on a pathway to pro sports. It’s about the experience,
4.5 long months, and now I have an actual Esport Arena to be the Director for. Excited to start building our rosters and competing soon 🔥
@CarthageEsports
Until academic esports award and recognize the students as much as the coaches and admin, it will continue to struggle for its credibility as a sport.
1st & 2nd Conference/regional teams, all-Americans, season MVPs, teams, and more should be implemented, but where are they?🤔
It’s 5am…and I’m wide awake with excitement for the
@BigEsportsConf
LAN to start.
13 Big Ten Universities
46 teams across 4 game titles
120 PCs
2 Gaming Arenas
Only 4 teams get to go home champions 🏆
My list of thank you’s for making this event a reality for these students
The disrespect to the Canadian National anthem at the

What was worse… the directors and coaches doing nothing but standing by (and some laughing)

Having a coach have expectations for you, is a privilege.
Having a coach hold you accountable, is an honor.
Showing up, putting in the work, being yourself, and keeping your word…that’s the only thank you that your coach needs.
Paid Subscription services for students to get access on a college recruiting platform, is and always will be outright wrong. I grew up dirt poor, and would have never asked my mother for $5 a month “to play video games in college”
Don’t create a gap in Esports, by offering (1/2)
To work at The University of Michigan is truly the only job that could have pulled me away from Carthage, and I am eternally grateful for the time, failures, and success that I have gotten to be a part of.

Disagree - If players are allowed to play for 5+ years, you only lower opportunities from the younger players. By staying, you are hindering and reducing opportunity for underclassmen. This is why the NCAA has the 4 in 5 years rule, and why exemptions for COVID have destroyed
If you're a student interested in doing clol during your undergrad + grad, I would highly recommend that you reach out to Tiza (or make a post in the College LoL discord), otherwise you're not going to be accommodated.

Coaches that don’t put in the effort to recruit a teammate, will only ever find themselves coaching an individual.
And that’s a wrap. My time as a Ranger has come to an end, and it’s on to the next adventure.

As someone who has coached traditional sports and Esports, I've seen this graphic for other sports, but re-made it for Esports.
Taking a game that someone loves, and using it to teach hard life lessons is what organized sports were founded on. Esports is no-different.

I see a lot of competition/travel during the summer so far, and I’m surprised at just how much is going.
My questions are:
1)Are you expected to compete during the summer months and truly be a year-round sport?
2)Who drives summer comp? Devs or Schools?
Still pretty surreal to even be nominated for
