Great drill with the cones. I struggle with telling kids to “breakdown” to tackle or block. Heard a coach say shorten your stride! Made a lot of sense to me!

Hurdles is the best and most basic exercise for hip mobility! But still always get asked, “coach am I going to have to jump over those?”

Starting off a knee is a great drill for both blocking a tackling! I’ve done it coaching OL and LBs! Hip drive immediately! Good stuff!
To get better at leg drive, you need to strike heavy things and drive it.
Running your feet on air will not help you get used to the shock and weight of a carrier.
Normal bag drills you don’t get enough from the holder…so add a second. Force big drive.

A2: I think first encouraging another sport is a great “drill” for improvement. But then it’s small drills like catching, footwork, body mechanics, and progressively getting more challenging as you get towards the season! If you can make it fun then you really got it!

A3: varies each year but can be overall athleticism or “finish”. We do as much as we can in the off season to improve athleticism with workouts, agilities, plyometrics, etc. “Finish” is improved with our competition teams and promoting a competitive environment!

A lot of college coaches that come by our office ask about other team’s kids. We are always honest and try to help those kids and coaches out!
I may be in the minority, but I really like seeing kids who we played and identified as people we needed to have a plan for, get offers.
Maybe it’s validation for me but I really think it’s recruiters seeing true value. Measurable aren’t the only thing, dudes who can play matter

Love it! Used my hat for footwork…had to get a new hat!
Coach was fed up with his players not hitting the inside of the bag so he put their phones on the bag to force them to hit the inside of the base.

A4: FIELD POSITION!! Coach Muschamp had a “% to score chart” from one end to the other of the field. Really, really low when a team is backed up and amazingly went up as they went down the field! It’s ok to punt and/or kick a FG!

Yes, stay in the double! Also typically if a player is engaged with a defender, the refs wont call them downfield, even if they are!

A3: try to get 20-30 min a day. Never, EVER, lose the fundamentals but then introduce and rep opponent looks. 70/30 run to pass work most weeks.

COACHES: 51 players on the 2017 University of Central Florida football team that went a perfect 13-0 were also on the 2015 UCF team that went winless (0-12). It's not always about getting new players. Sometimes it is about developing the potential of the people you already have.
