I can not for the life of me understand how a parent can spend thousands a year on AAU, thousands on shoes, and thousands on training/camps and allow their kid to have bad grades and a bad attitude...
16 years ago, I called/emailed 6 coaches in 1 day and drove to all 6 schools to workout/hoop with their teams. I earned 4 offers and ended my career as an All Conference player and met my wife. Dont let Social Media make you think its easy! Put yourself out there youngins'...
Social Media hype is killing the hoop scene. I went on my visit to Saint Gregory's, Macu, and Bacone and was in tears when they offered me. Kids these days think NAIA is a diss because their homie was offered by a D2/D1 and most can barely play on these NAIA teams.

💔😔💔Fly High Maddie B! I'm at a loss for words. Going to miss our long talks in my office and the support and light you always brought to others. So sorry Stephanie and Bobby! So sorry...
If you train guards and dont focus on floaters and mid range, you are limiting them. If I know you are a 3 or a layup, you will have trouble scoring on me or teams I coach.
First win as a Head Coach! ☘️.. I could get on here and be cheesy and say its just a game, but it feels special! Appreciate my Co-Coaches and these girls for creating this memory!

Our hoop fraternity is real in OK... CorNell was solid man, and would give game to the next generation of hoopers. When we lose one, we all feel it. But to his family who it hits the hardest, I'll pray for you and continue to spread game they way Neal wish we all would.
I respect kids more who say "I do not want to play college ball, but love hooping..." More than I respect kids who say "I really want to play college ball" but dont act on the knowledge and wisdom provided to them...

This is what you call a sad day! Honestly, I dont care about the lesson plan. I have kids who eat my snacks, talk about life, and enjoy the heaters in my room because its cold at home. Virtual is necessary but I'd rather stagger the schedule because my kids need love and peace!
Some wins are ugly, some wins are hard, but....tough times never last when you are a group of dogs! Regional Champs for the first time since 2014. ☘️☘️☘️
My 6 year old boy Corban took a rocket off the bat to his face. Same type of play that retired his dad 21 years ago. His team is playing 8U and He cried, then bounced back and went 4-4 from the plate!
#CarterBoy
If you are a kid who chooses the bench on a sponsored team over a role on a solid grassroots team, I usually will disregard your message in May asking to join our teams. You dont have the underdog spirit we look for. Be the reason we win and not along for the ride somewhere else.
Not bad for a kid that NAIA and D2 schools were telling no out of high school. Bet on himself and boom all conference, all defense, and high character!
If yall tweeting about anything but that young girl out of Classen SAS Ms. Jordan's game, yall have an agenda and looking for clicks! My kids will have to wait til tomorrow! 74 points!?? Somebody talk to me! ????
SM has decreased the value of a scholarship due to players seeing so many kids go D2 or D1! I was in tears getting my NAIA offers like I was getting drafted. It was my destination and didnt worry about anyone else. School paid for is one of the greatest blessings, period!
The best refs are the ones who actually hooped. They dont overreact to a kid yelling "and 1"...they don't mind a little back and forth if not malicious. Refs who couldn't hoop are usually power hungry and emotional. I never address refs but its obvious.
I find it sad that religion is always brought up in defending bad actions. I grew up in a baptist church also, but going to church didn't make me a solid individual. Carrying out the Gospel does, so please quit saying "I go to church" lol...

diabetes too? Man I cant.
They came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:1-3)
Had a good call with
@MattReynolds___
today about my 2021 and 2022 guys. Izzy had 21 tonight against a tough Drl City team. Also see below to see what 2022 Graham Tawwater did against a top 5A team in Shawnee.

One thing I will say about this basketball grind. It took me away from church and church is the foundation that built me. I learned to speak in front of large crowds at 11, providing scriptures and prayers. Need to make sure my kids get that same experience. I can do both!
End of a regular season full of ups and downs, but nothing better than going to war with the crew. Hosting for the first time since 2014 in our 2nd year as a staff and these seniors went out there to fight tonight.

Some AAU programs recruit yearly to win games that no one remembers and take shots at people. Some AAU programs develop and showcase talent. Thats our business.. Every year we have a young person win a title who nobody wanted or believed in.

I use to train on one end of the court from Steve at Hoop House and
@TrickyTrey23
didnt wait until his turn to start working out. He'd be doing jump ropes, pushups, and sprints until his pops got done training. Not close to the kid but I watch every game I can. I follow grinders!
"Shoot it"..."Catch the ball"..."run him over"..."Dribble!!" "Throw strikes!"..."box out!"
All things parents yell after spending 0 hours working with their kid on any of it...
Did you know you can be more skilled and athletic than someone and not be ranked/recruited higher? This is true in the Nba, college, and HS. Intangibles matter. Taking care of your body, be mentally tough, be coachable, and give effort.
#GoLiftGoToClass
Most important thing to learn when coaching...Head Coach has to be program and culture focused and the Assistants must be player focused! (emotions + development).. Only way it works!
JV as a junior and almost no minutes on the varsity court, to starting and hitting the free throws to ice the game for a Gold Ball! People tell stories of resilience and passion daily but
@CahleseL
lived it! Proud of you man! Tough times dont last! Tough people do!

16U Squad went 3-1 this weekend with a big win to close out bracket play! Slowly changing our culture and developing our skills! Development, passion, and commitment!

When your brother gets to coach a fellow Reno dawg that you also coached in
@dariusmooore03
! They chest bumped at the end of this after Booga got the sack! Man I almost shed a tear
@CoachScarter
One thing my girls are learning about me this preseason is that everyone matters! I will stop a drill or practice to correct the 15th girl on the bench just like I will the best player. We grow together! Once coaches separate their coaching, the kids separate!
Y'all on here arguing about rankings and lobbying for kids for aau like y'all nba scouts. Meanwhile this me snd my wife... I can develop whoever wants to be with us! We win, we grind! Lol
Where are all my coaches who love a late bloomer who is defensive minded and very athletic? Cahlese Lee has been in the gym and is about to have a great senior year.
The boy who changed my life turns 7 years old today! Show him some love! Finally to old for me to say he is 5 and under to get in free everywhere.

Kids...Make saying "NO" normal again. Say "no" to your friends going out more often. Say "no" to your peers skipping school. Say "no" to temptation. Saying "no" can help progress your dreams or on a larger scale, keep you alive...
The best thing about twitter is seeing millionaire pro athletes do fundamental drills that kids I train or coach get disgusted or bored with... Steph and Paul George 2 ball before every game and practice.. "Coach, teach me that Kyrie drag dribble stepback"
Watching the D2 National Championship. If you have bigs who cant shoot in this age of hoops, you are hurting your guards ability to create. Everybody on the court must be a threat in 2021. Good stuff.
One of the best things I have learned in life is to forgive an angry reaction. Not everyone can operate while emotional, and that competitive spirit can unleash some foul stuff. I watch peoples actions...
Big bomb today for my little man during the State Tournament championship game. 2 more weeks then he is getting on that gridiron for the first time! ⚾️🏈🏀

When people ask what it takes to be noticed!
@CallenHaydon23
has team breakfast, classes, team lunch, team weights, team practice... its now 7pm and he heads to McGuinness and trains with

and I... He is built for this...
Nothing better than training guys on a mission. Coryon betting on himself and making it D1, to Noah blocking out rankings and continuing the grind in HS.

This app needs more men & women who have failed or hold regrets to speak about the recruiting process and what kids need to do that they didnt...Instead of people with large support systems trying to degrade kids who dont know on the process. Idk if that makes sense.
This is crazy. The first basketball commitment from McGuinness Girls in a long time! By long time, I mean almost a decade. Congrats to you Fletch! Well earned!

Dont base rankings off the AAU team they play on or what HS they go to, but how they impact the game. We want underdogs. If you'd rather be average on a sponsored team than show your game at our level, we wont beg. But the ranking should be based on work, not who u know.
I was a 6'2 165lb guard in HS, then played the 4 in college and guarded players 6'7 250. The best skillset you can give your kids is toughness and confidence. I've seen players with NCAA skill never play college due to a poor mindset and a lack of toughness.

We bring that heat when the pressure is on! My boy won his age groups homerun derby at the Little League World Series. Boy got hype and damn near made me shed a tear...

Met my wife, my business partner, and made connections that lead to my first Head Coaching job. Oh and I got to play right away. D1 bench player may struggle with depression and connecting with people. Not for everyone. Tell them their kid could miss those opportunities for hype.
Question... If a kid is a freshman. Physical enough and skilled enough to play 16U or 17U next summer and the shoe teams in his grade are stacked. Would you recommend playing up on grassroots or grassroots his grade? Or shoe team out of state? I have my opinion, just curious...
School ball better prepares you for the college gameplay. Excel at your school! AAU prepares you for the mental and physical piece of college. Compete for minutes, earn respect, and be consistent among people who are not deferring to you. Both matter. Be a dawg amongst dawgs.
Blessed to see another year that was not promised. Thanks everyone for the love. This birthday hits different because the craziness going on in the world!

we almost back. Now time to watch 7U baseball for 6 hours in the sun...
If your kids trust you and know you love them, you can coach them hard, and the better players will embrace it. But there are a lot of coaches who have shown the inability to connect to kids and then try this method. Those coaches shouldnt be in the profession.
Unless you have NBA talent...players who work hard, stay loyal, and play with passion go further than the ones who are talented, change teams weekly and have bad body language. I have worked hard to build my teams with those kids, even if I miss out on a stud..still a process.
Just watched "Rise" on Disney... Giannis is top 10, not 10. I repute all Giannis slander I have ever spoke. I'll fight somebody over Giannis slander, right today...
Do scouts or college recruiters ever miss on their assessment of a kid and then not give them a chance because they dont want to be wrong? Serious question. Hell it happens in AAU, so Im not judging but... 6'4 efficient scorer with teammates who love him!
@ThatKiddIzzy5
Absolute worse thing you can do to a HS ball player as a coach, is tell a tall kid they have to only post up. The absolute worst thing you can do as a parent is tell your tall kid you need to be a guard at your HS to go to college. Both statements are true. NBA guards played post
Man...Coaching really brings back memories. Couldnt tell me nothing in 2009. I would have had some heated exchanges if I coached myself! Never seen a bad shot lol... Throwback at TCU!
It’s not quite March, but the madness is in full effect!
Bishop McGuinness’s girls, stayed alive this afternoon with a clutch putback, then a pair of free throws with almost no time left!

Morning message to the 2024 class‼️ There are a lot of kids who had better HS careers and even more talent than you stuck at big schools upset! They were dreamers also. Go where you have a chance to eventually play and contribute! Sometimes we miss our blessing chasing diamonds!
My favorite part about traditional HS basketball is it humbles the overhyped kids from some AAU programs and sheds light on the true hoopers! If you 20 a game in AAU and poo for your school, you are comfy with your aau coach. Get in the lab!
