steve touched countless lives and changed mine and many others for the better. a genuine, singular, principled person. spent the last 40 years helping people make art. there's no reason for him to be gone and the world is less interesting without him. just a really sad day.
this is so stupid. also they're proud of themselves for "matching employee donations" jesus christ you're a 21 BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY how about you just donate a BILLION DOLLARS
seventeen minutes ago i turned 33 in a small town in spain while watching protomartyr play in front of 6000 people, three mountains and a bullfighting arena
10 years together today! went to detroit and watched troye sivan play like 11 songs we don’t know and charli xcx play exclusively huge tunes. here’s to 10 more years 🫡
we worked with albini again on this new album. he is the best. it felt like we were all adults this time around? whereas before i was simply a baby. anyway i am prepared for 700 interview questions about it, bring it on
kissinger news broke during our set tonight. other bands probably played in the world around 7:15 CT tonight but i like to think we're the one that did the job
had a cold brew and started drafting emails like "hello i play in a band that was relatively critically acclaimed in the early 2010s can i please have a free PS5"
what are some deep cuts you want to hear on this tour? if i play stay useless every night for the 3rd tour this year i might drive into the side of a building somewhere around the dallas gig
i walked by a man playing acoustic guitar in a park and i realized when i say i miss live music, i only miss very specific, non-"man playing acoustic guitar in a park" types of live music
my indie rock career hasn't been lucrative enough, so i've pivoted to free jazz to make that real money - join me fellow 2012 pitchfork buzz bands. i know japandroids has a sonny sharrock record hidden deep within them somewhere
REVIEW 'Blessed Repair' by Baldi / Gerycz
A surprising and worth while experiment from these Cloud Nothing members. I'd like to see more indie rock musicians try their hand at free jazz...
@carparkrecords
@cloudnothings
i've been listening to lots of ambient music and free jazz lately but if you tell me to make a song i will still just write some really fast version of wonderwall with power chords
bartender asked a guy if he was doing good, he just looked at her and silently shook his head "no", so she started explaining the meaning of the 5 different taylor s*ift tattoos she has...denver is not a normal place. our gig starts in 1 hour at HQ denver
just had my first practice with speedy ortiz for the upcoming tour next week where i'm filling in on guitar. didn't play the songs right but it's the thought that counts
you: *holds down one key on a synth for 30 minutes, turns one knob very slowly clockwise throughout*
me: "i will take two copies of your LP and one cassette please"
we played in indonesia a few years ago and i took a long walk alone through the middle of nowhere in bali. came face to face with a horned animal i had never seen before and climbed halfway up a tree to hide from it. today i found out the animal was just a cow
playing in a band for 10 years and still being referred to as an "up and coming artist" = the indie rock equivalent of being asked for your ID at the bar when you're obviously old
this virus is bad but kinda presents an opportunity to try out my dream tour: in an empty bar, a big red curtain onstage opens and reveals four skeletons with instruments. they are motionless and silent for 45 minutes. then the lights turn off and the curtain closes. end of show.
we've put out an album just about every year since we started & streaming alone does not pay the bills. i do kinda understand what he's saying but it's still basically an artist-unfriendly stance. simply creating more streamable music does not equal making a living from streaming
need to figure out a way to give awards for bands that are good at touring. can you pack a van and see out the back window? can you drive 8 hours without stopping? can you load in/soundcheck within 45 minutes of arriving at the venue? these are important things that go unnoticed
new EP tomorrow for bandcamp friday. new EP every month because we are content creators now. this is like the beatles releasing an album every 6 months but better
was thinking "why am i so pissed off right now" and then realized i've had free jazz blasting in my headphones for like 45 minutes without noticing it. turned it off and immediately felt better. this is an anti-free jazz tweet
remember seeing them at brighton music hall in boston, 2014...they covered a rare deerhunter b-side and have been cool in my book ever since. 100 million streams is kinda insane
if i offered guitar lessons, possibly with a focus on songwriting (rather than shredding like yngwie malmsteen), would anyone be interested? it'd be over zoom or something of course
my favorite band, i like seeing these records laid out together. played with lotus plaza in belgium in 2012 and it was the only time (i think) that i've been an annoying punisher fanboy. 20 years old and i couldn't hold it back. sorry lockett. the music is just too good!
day 2 of social distancing: i wrap myself in toilet paper and roll around an empty shelf in walmart. hundreds of people attempt to purchase me. my fame steadily grows. i am booked to host SNL, where i roll around the stage silently. the ratings are incredible. i am finally happy.
remembering one of our first shows in NYC where like 3 people showed up, and then after the show the promoter rolled up with two like "tough guys" and told me i owed him $25. imagine being a grown man trying to shake down a frail 18 year old indie rock nerd for $25 lol. fun gig.
having record store withdrawal. would flip through the worst dollar bin garbage in the world right now just to be able to flip through records. bring me your tired, your hungry, your herb alpert and the tijuana brass
i remember in high school hearing that williamsburg had a good music scene and thinking people meant the colonial town in virginia. and that's my story about what being in high school in ohio was like.
"here and nowhere else" came out exactly 7 years ago today. in this photo you will see us looking particularly awful after a show at some point in 2014 while touring that album
i listened to that newest coldplay album on the day it came out. knew it'd be the album of the year from the first note. it's the greatest album i've ever heard. i would die for that coldplay album. i would murder anyone for it. i would do anything for that newest coldplay album
