With the right mix of renewables, batteries and other forms of energy storage, and the right governance structure -for us, that is public ownership, we can ensure the lights never dim or go off.

Solar, Wind, and Batteries Thrive During Frigid Blast "While the Trump Admin was busy trying to prop up fossil fuels this week, it looks like wind, solar, and battery power are keeping the lights on-and affordable-as demand for electricity surged" @NRDC

Transitional plans are not just a nice add-on to the move to Net Zero, they're absolutely vital if we are going to achieve NetZero.

We apologise for harping on about carbon capture and storage but we think that the point made in the enclosed x message point is important, and needs to be repeated.

Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) has a mixed history in the UK. In October 2024, government announced £21.7bn in funding over 25 years, but doubts are growing over its value for money. I recall how 10 years ago the previous government canceled the £1bn CCS competition.

Whilst the Labour government considers opening up the Rosebank field, let's remind ourselves of the reality of the warming Earth. New oil exploration just makes things worse.

PCS strongly opposes any plans to drill for oil in Rosebank. It is extraordinary that this is being considered when the climate crisis is accelerating and the UN secretary general has warned we are in a race against time

PCS is clear that carbon capture and storage is not only a technological dead end, a diversion from the real task, which is moving to a sustainable economy, it's also a complete waste of money-monies that could be much better used eg. Insulating homes.

😡Ed Miliband only consulted fossil fuel companies, between the election & the announcement to pump £22bn into CCUS Politicians should put people before private profit. Bring down our bills & invest in cheap renewables - don't prolong oil and gas.

Extremely disappointing that Government opposed the Climate and Nature Bill last Friday. The Bill would have enshrined Britain’s international targets for climate change and nature restoration in domestic law. These won’t be met with current legislation, we need more ambition

@SteveReedMP have you checked how much land @RachelReevesMP needs for aviation fuel to counter the environmental impacts of expanding aviation?

We hope Noah is right. Certainly the economics are favourable as renewables are cheaper, and becoming more so, compared to fossil fuels.

As in essence the employer of all UK civil servants they can just grant these things - if they were serious about involving unions.

They promote PCS policy and campaigns on green/ sustainability issues in the branch; carry out workplace environmental audits and monitor employers’ activity on/progress towards green/ sustainability policies/targets. If that sounds good, why not become a green rep?

Building a sustainable economy does lead to growth, and allied to measure such as socialisation of water/ energy supply, increasing union rights, mandating sectorial bargaining can lead to a better society as well, where growth actually increases the living standards of all.

Hopefully all this is just idle speculation. Seeking to overturn the ruling would be a terrible decision and would show that this government is not serious about Net Zero and climate change.

- We stand with climate protestors. It is time to roll back the regressive protest laws that threaten our basic democratic rights and take meaningful action on climate change rather than locking up those who bravely protest

An amazing victory today in amongst all the bad news as greenlighting oilfields in Rosebank ruled to be unlawful. #greenunionists
