I stood with the farming community today, as they protested against the planned changes to inheritance tax. I strongly oppose the family farm tax. It's an attack on rural communities and our way of life. I will continue to stand with farmers and raise their case in Westminster.

Yesterday, I responded to the Secretary of State for Local Government’s statement that Gloucestershire County Council will not be in the first wave of Local Authorities to become a unitary. I am pleased that county council elections planned for 1st May 2025 will now go ahead.

Yesterday, I wrote to the Home Secretary, along with the Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Philp MP and many others, to oppose the proposed 245% increase to shotgun certifications. Following on from the family farm tax, this is yet another attack on the rural communities.

As Chairman of the PAC, who recently published a report on SEND, in which we were concerned about the provision of special schools and pupils travelling long distances, I warmly welcome Gloucestershire County Council's plans for this brand new school.

I think there's a lot more we could do to encourage the Government to find the recipients.

It is no surprise that the latest MRP poll shows Labour support in their rural constituencies has plummeted dramatically. A series of attacks on farmers and small businesses shows they do not understand how hard life is for some in rural areas.
