A beautiful article about a beautiful place. At the time, the creation of #Steart was seen as bold and innovative. Now its success is helping us understand just how amazing #saltmarsh superpowers really are.
10 years ago, tidal waters were allowed to flood the Steart peninsula, creating what we now call WWT Steart Marshes. The @nytimes reporter @RorySmith tells the story of this wondrous, "radical solution" to flooding risk and climate change. ๐

They're still busy! ๐ to the birder who told us they'd spotted one of our 2024 'head started' Godwits in Alicante, Spain on her way to winter in W Africa ๐ Hatched @WWTWelney & released on the Nene Washes, she's already travelled nearly 1000 miles ๐คshe'll be back in 2025๐ฅ
Busy little #Godwits this #BiodiversityDay! You saw them hatching. They spent 4-5 days in a warm nursery growing & mastering those enormous feet! Then it's time for outside. As they strengthen & grow, their space grows with them. Then they get released. #bepartoftheplan

So excited this has got to launch! At @WWTworldwide, we have big ambitions. But we recognise delivering them needs #partnership & #collaboration. So we're sharing this work to help everyone play a part in delivering those ambitions. The time for #wetlands is now!
Today we're launching our Wetland Potential Maps. ๐บ๏ธ Looking at where wetlands would provide the most value to people and nature, the maps highlight 100,000 hectares of wetland potential around the UK. Find out more here ๐

What have we done to our world? Spending time in #Madagascar is like being on the front line of #climatechange. But it's not just here it's having an impact. Extremes are at risk of becoming the new normal. We need to build #resilience now. #wetland #superpowers

Visiting @WWTMartinMere today: the scale & variety of habitat is amazing! But my standout is the moth trap & hoards of schoolchildren learning to love moths as a result. This little beauty is not a twig... it's a buff-tip moth camouflaging itself. How cool is nature?! ๐ฅฐ

Absolutely stunning visit to @WWTCaerlaverock over the last two days. The very essence of sanctuary & such a privilege to play a part in the history this landscape. Winter is what it's famous for but summer is stunning! As highlighted by these #Swallows at the Saltcot hide.
