So tired of so many in DC explaining away or minimizing the sharp rise in petty theft in DC. Yes, sometimes it’s an Amazon package that can easily be replaced. But in the case of my neighbor tonight, it’s an EpiPen for their child.

DC really sucks sometimes. More often than not lately. 11:20 in the morning. And a child will grow up without their mother for absolutely no good reason. The lack of accountability for criminals, the DC Council, and city leadership is unconscionable.
The pregnant woman who was shot in D.C. Thursday morning has succumbed to her injuries and died. Police said her child survived the shooting.

It appears motor vehicle theft, which is up almost 100%, is considered a non violent crime. Which is interesting given that most of these carjackings are being done with guns/knives. Just because you aren’t killed or shot doesn’t mean it’s not traumatizing.

The defense of the penalties provisions in the DC RCCA entirely misses the point. We’ve had two homicides within a block and a half of our home. Too many armed carjackings to count. An attempted break-in on our home at 7:30 am. We aren’t even close to unique in this.

The President saved the DC Council from themselves. Maybe there’s now a chance to turn this around, keep families in the city, support the many small businesses and restaurants we hold dear…with God-willing, less crime.
I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule – but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections – such as lowering penalties for carjackings.
If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did – I’ll sign it.
