EXCITING NEWS! The rail trolleys are returning on weekends beginning October 1! For the first weekend of October, the trolleys will be free to ride and then the fare will be $1 per person. Trolleys will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

ATTENTION cruise passengers: The best route to take as you’re disembarking and leaving the island is along Harborside Drive, then take a left at 51st Street and a right on Broadway, which becomes Interstate 45. The streets along this route are passable.

Harborside is looking good 😍 A @CityofGalveston project includes initiatives to beautify entrance to the terminals and DT w/ palm trees and new signage on the walkway. City has also worked with the port to re-route the cruise main entrance so it’s safer for pedestrians to cross.

GPD formed a task force on Monday to swiftly investigate a series of armed robberies on the island. Since its creation, the task force has arrested four adults and three juveniles. These arrests have cleared nearly all of the reported aggravated robberies in the last 30 days.

BNSF Railway recognized the City of Galveston with a community heritage award for the city's history and role in the growth and development of railroads. The company donated $10,000 to local causes: $5,000 to the Galveston Railroad Museum and $5,000 to Better Parks for Galveston.

Our GFD firefighters were assigned to the Carr Fire, in Redding CA. The Carr Fire is one of 23 fires burning across California. It has burned 170,000 acres and destroyed 1,100 homes. Chief Mike Wisko, and our firefighters are in great spirits and proud to be part of this mission

We're under a coastal flood statement for high tides. The high tide makes it difficult for any amount of rain to clear off quickly so you will likely see some pooling around the island. Be careful when driving and avoid creating wake, which can damage vehicles and property.

The demolition of the old municipal incinerator began two weeks ago. Here is a time lapse video that shows the removal of one of the smoke stacks. The City has worked closely with the contractor to ensure all steps are being taken toward a safe demolition.

The trolley trucks are rolling! Our fleet and transit team was out today doing a test run of the trolley trucks. This is the 2nd tested. We anticipate a 2019 return for the rail trolleys once the trolleys are refurbished and the trucks go through regulatory testing.

The City of Galveston has lifted its water restrictions. The Gulf Coast Water Authority finished repairing the 42-inch line and bacteriological samples returned with good results. The authority has begun delivering water to the island again along this line.

The City will not issue any Special Event Permits through the end of May 2020. This means that any currently scheduled event of 50 or more people will be cancelled or postponed until after June 1, 2020. We encourage private event sponsors to postpone events of 50 people or more
