@KenzoShibata
I was disappeared by cops in 2008 in S. Illinois while nonviolently protesting. They lied to my friends & the press as to where I was going. Instead of local jail they took me to county prison. No paper trail. Small town fights are a different breed. Every cop knew me afterwards.
If I ever had the chance to do an episode of
@yourewrongabout
itd be about Chumbawamba, a punk band of legitimate anarchist squatters who fell into worldwide pop music success 15 years into their career & used that money & fame to fund radical leftist political groups for years.
ZOLA was amazing!! Its gorgeous (& shot on 16mm), the sound editing was *perfect,* & its one of the best told stories Ive seen on the screen in a while. Just plain good storytelling. Captivating af. Also, its everything Harmony Korine has tried to do for the past 10 years.
@Remember_Sarah
I'm a bookseller at a 50 year old used bookstore and I havent been able to set foot in it since March 11th. Id give anything to awkwardly stop people from trying to steal the sex magick books *again* right about now.
I love how
@musicboxtheatre
stamps your hand after checking your vax card cause the next day my coworkers think I was at the club partying on a Thursday instead of being a middle aged man who went to see a minimalist Icelandic arthouse film by himself at 930pm.
@KenzoShibata
Bittersweet that this is the most popular thing ive ever tweeted. While youre here donate to this women's center in the small town that this happened in. Resources in Southern Illinois for things like this are slim.
New Job Report: WE UNIONIZED!!
The Half Price Books in Niles, IL (the busiest & most profitable HPB in Chicagoland) is now a union store!! Gonna go pour one out at August Spies' grave this weekend for sure.
I honestly didnt think anyone else would be into this, but since you are... heres a link to a (low quality) free version of the 20th anniversary documentary/video collection of the band. Its well worth watching!
@anafabregagood
Andrew Yang is the guy at the bar who is your coworkers roommates boyfriend & seems alright enough but wont do any shots or go outside & smoke weed so youre not sure if hes a cop or just a square. But either way hes still somehow laughing way too hard at everyones jokes.
@MikeVanderbilt
My uncle refused to look at my apartments central air because if Chicago Pipefitters Local Union 597 found out he was working after retirement out of his area he'd lose his pension.
@alexsteed
That you can hold someone accountable for past actions without necessarily treating them as the same person they were when they committed said actions.
Happy birthday to
@BruceLaBruce
!! A true queer pioneer & badass punk motherfucker!! The world's a far better, kinkier, funnier, & more politically charged place because of his films, art, & writing.
I love Tubi cause it's the only streaming platform that feels like an indie video store from the 80s/90s. The selection is confusing as hell & you end up watching something youve never heard of & falling in love with it cause they didn't have what you were actually looking for.

@latifnasser
This is weirdest gatekeeping. Dude literally said this was something he learned about 8 years ago at the top - and even tagged the person he learned it from. I cant imagine being upset that someone is trying to teach other people.
Im so into these Blockbuster free movie exchange boxes. We should make one here in Chicago, but make it a Nationwide Video box.
RIP everyones favorite local chain of 25% indie arthouse, 75% porn video stores.

"I would like to see a building ... on one side of it a foot-wide strip from top to bottom with the name of every bricklayer, the name of every electrician ... So when a guy when he walked by could take his son & say, “See, that’s me over there on the 45th floor...” -Studs Terkel
@Remember_Sarah
The queer history of punk. The 1st punk club in Chicago was a gay bar whos owner went punk in 77. A lot of early 80s hardcore bands had queers. Theres a myth that queers in punk were an anomaly til the 90s. Multi eps covering LA, Chicago, Austin, SF, Toronto, NYC from 70s til now
I just learned theres gonna be a 35mm screening of
@missannabiller
's absolute masterpiece THE LOVE WITCH at
@docfilmschicago
this Friday @ 9:30pm!
Come have bright blessings & a merry meet & bask in the warm celluloid glow of its beautiful, hypnotic, post-exploitation glory!!!
@edrodriiguez
I feel so weird. I used to make the embroidered Chicago Native gear at my old job. If you got a piece of theirs from 2017-18, theres a 75% chance I made it with my hands. I liked supporting a fellow Cuban. Sometimes you just dont know. Not all your brothers are your brothers.
Listen, if you you dont think casting Liam Neeson as Leslie Nielson in the Naked Gun remake isnt hilarious based on their names alone then you fundamentally dont understand the Naked Gun
@yourewrongabout
Saw this today here in Chicago. It was the only thing in their window. I literally have no idea what the business is selling besides good vibes.
I need to raise $$$ to finish a feature length film so Im selling most of my vintage 40" x 60" film poster collection (50+) at low prices (like $50-$200 w/shipping).
Lotsa exploitation, horror, arthouse & early queer cinema!!
I'll be making a dedicated site so keep an eye out!
@Remember_Sarah
Charcutie Kids. A Netflix original competition program where kids under 10-13 battle to make the best charcuterie spreads. Product selection, speed, creativity, & overall presentation will be taken into consideration when naming Chef Charcutie!
Gimme a million dollars now plz.

About 4 hours. They were trying to move me around and hold me past the time possible to be bailed so id be processed and held til I could be seen by a judge at some point in the next few days.
I just found out that everyone else at my warehouse listens to
@bestshow4life
every week. Thanks to this weeks early episode I learned they all listen to it on Wednesdays - when I dont work. Youd think this would bring us together, except now an argument about snacks has ensued.
Ever wonder why the 2nd largest film market in the US of the 20th century (Chicago's Loop district) literally completely disappeared by the 1980s?
This is a perfect synthesis of racial politics, business, popular entertainment, urban planning, & history. Highest recommendation.
Absolutely stoked to announce that were gonna be screening the Fugazi documentary INSTRUMENT at Facets! One night only - Thurs Jan 25th @ 9pm!
In my opinion this is the best music documentary ever made. It still feels so experimental & fresh. Come celebrate its 25th anniversary!
One of my proudest moments as a zine editor was having the privilege to publish a friend's "Captain Ron is actually Snake Plissken" fanfiction back in the mid '00s.
Im still trying to sell some of my 40" x 60" posters to help fund a film. Ive slashed the prices on whats left & am down for hearing any offers & making deals for orders of 2+.
DM me if you want a price list! Trust me, having a 5 foot tall poster hanging up feels pretty cool.
I made a thing! I designed/layed out the box art 100% by hand - wanted to keep a DIY vibe to the 1st
@TwoTreeVideo
release. Im proud of these films/this release & cant wait to make more of both!
If youre a filmmaker or band looking to put out a VHS hit me or
@MikeVanderbilt
up!
Crass never played LA in the 80s. They did 5 shows in NYC in June/July of 1978, their only US shows ever.
Theres no way I can watch this movie now. I simply wont be able to immerse myself in the world of the film with this nonsense. Ti West, youve lost a fan forever. Do better.
Now that ive been non-stop listening to
@yourewrongabout
every time I flip through my vintage magazines I notice little things & im like, "Huh, I think the ad team hired by the Pan-American Coffee Bureau may have invented the phrase 'coffee-break'... I better look into this."
HBD to America's Only Director, John Waters
Come to
@facetschicago
next Thurs for film trivia at 7pm with me &
@MikeVanderbilt
and then stick around for our 9pm screening of Water's 90s trashterpiece, SERIAL MOM
Last night in Spain/Madrid & found a tiny arthouse/rep theatre showing something called THE NANNY'S NIGHT that seemed cool. Went & it turned out to be the premiere! Full cast/crew in a 75 seater w/people in the aisles! Its a super fun queer horror comedy! Hope it comes to the US!
"The rotting fruits of capitalist consumerism are laid bare during the quiet class warfare of Christmas, emphasised here by Bill’s vast wealth and strictly transactional existence." –
@LWLies
on EYES WIDE SHUT, screening 12/4 at 7 PM.
Get your tix here:
Nothing like spending Easter talking with the always amazing
@BruceLaBruce
for a recorded intro to the upcoming screening of his seminal queercore/New Queer Cinema film NO SKIN OFF MY ASS at
@docfilmschicago
on 4/28 @ 930pm. It's the new digital restoration! Tix are only $7!!!
Just got off a very auspicious hour long zoom, and it looks like I might be making another film in Europe?? Who wants to see some English Gothic horror meets Jean Rollin? Lurid camp, anyone?
@Remember_Sarah
I '99 i worked at a video store in the far north burbs of Chicago and months before the movie came out their guerilla promo team came & asked if they could put flyers for their missing friends up in our store window. Insane that the marketing for that movie was just... lying.
Of all the Japanese UFO punk zombie queer love stories ever made, Id say WILD ZERO is prob my fav. Which is why I've programmed it Thurs 10/26 as the Halloween pick for Film Trivia Nite at
@facetschicago
! W/ an intro from
@ThisEndsAtProm

@Veloci_trap_tor
even!!
I got the full Doc Films experience last night by seeing AUDITION on 35mm with a theatre full of random college undergrads who had no idea what they were in for and then having the film stop for 5 minutes because the last reel wasnt loaded right. Chicago cinema is back baybeee!
Found a theatre in Barcelona doing a David Lynch retrospective & went to MUHOLLAND DRIVE. When the scene where Naomi Watts & Laura Harring get topless & makeout came on dude next to me took out his phone & took a flash pic of the screen.
100% best part of this vacation so far.
Im having major spinal surgery tomorrow & decided that if I die under the knife I want to spend my last day getting into petty arguments online cause I want my legacy to be real. Also post my search history if I die since I wont be around to tell you about cool fucked up stuff
If you were at the Cure concert in Chicago this past June you probably saw me outside it with my Super 8. I lucked into some expired film & wanted to film the fans before the show. I finally finished the project. Here are some stills, screening soon Im sure!
@StephanieHypes
Yes. The DVDs/Blurays (and rest of the VHS) are in another room. Streaming platforms are unreliable and digital downloads are technically only liscensed. I still rent DVDs by mail as well from
@facetschicago
@Remember_Sarah
Advertising. John Hughes worked in advertising in Chicago for an ad agency owned by Jessica Harper's (star of the 1977 Suspiria) father, who lived in Winnetka, IL - where this house is located. I can show you my bulletin board covered with red string if you want further proof.
@Remember_Sarah
I bought a Bart Simpson "Underachiever amd proud of it" carnival glass mirror from a garage sale & my parents made them take it back because Bart was a terrible influence. We then went home & watched Married With Children as a family.
@yourewrongabout
My friends' mom was in the stands for this with her camera and took some incredibly good photos of it. Shes now a pro photog with multiple gallery showings, including the Disco Demo ones.
I *love* digging around the shelves at
@facetschicago
cause Im always finding cool, rare stuff like this OOP VHS mixtape featuring CABARET VOLTAIRE, HUSKER DU, SWANS, DIAMANDA GALAS, EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN, PSYCHIC TV, DAVID JOHANSEN, & JOHN WATERS.
Yes,
@facetschicago
is open! Come visit me til 6pm and rent one of these thousands of films. I promise you I'll be wearing a mask when you get here! (And listening to The Sea and Cake)
The new Wes Anderson movie is the equivalent of someone reading you an entire issue of McSweeneys if they were doing a full parody issue of The New Yorker.

Jordan Peele's company is called Monkey's Paw Productions. It 100% could have been loaded term under other circumstances, but in a horror context it's a known reference (among horror nerds)
New Job Update: A teen came in and bought the 1st Jackass movie, the 1st Dead Kennedys album, and the 1st B-52s album. They're gonna turn out just fine.
