Broad Street in Philadelphia is abuzz with Superbowl Fever! Go Eagles, or as our beloved @PhillyMayor put it in a burst of enthusiasm, "Go Elgses"!! (she corrected herself immediately thereafter) That's City Hall in the background; matching T-shirts from my daughter...

I have no words...I thought I had seen it all in 36+ years in Philly. Nope. Last night, one student killed another @TempleUniv Temple student killed in possible drug-related shooting; police say suspected shooter is another student via @CBSPhiladelphia

The primal instinct of climbing light-poles when your home team wins (despite the city greasing the poles earlier today). @Eagles fans are a special bunch!

@Osinttechnical I think that the proper British term is "drophead", not the American term "convertible". This is the RAF, after all...!

Congrats to postdoc Juana Goulart Stollmaier @jubsnjubs and grad student Abbi Czarnecki for discovering the mode of action of a selenocyanate HDAC6 inhibitor! Enzyme-promoted hydrolysis of the selenocyanate yields a zinc-bound selenolate anion.

L'orgue est réveillé! It was stunning to hear Olivier Latry, longest-serving organist at Notre Dame, play the first improvisation at yesterday's reopening service. Fond memories of meeting him in the organ loft when my daughter Karen played for him at age 11. #NotreDame

Congrats to postdoc Eli Wenger for determining the first complete structure of a bifunctional terpene synthase, variediene synthase. This 495-kD oligomer exhibits novel substrate channeling behavior, but only with a non-native cyclase!

@guyralls @BGatesIsaPyscho Quite certain about the terrestrial biochemistry, which also occurs in the eponymous Blue Hills of Australia. Interesting point, though, about coming off of the sea. Marine life generates organic volatiles, too (some are rather smelly!) - I wonder if these might be a factor.

@guyralls @BGatesIsaPyscho The blue tint is from plant-emitted isoprene! This is quite common, e.g., in the eponymous Blue Ridge Mountains in the southeastern US. The blue tint is also observed in the Tuscan countryside, as first recorded in the notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci. See:

Congrats to @PennChemistry grad student Matt Gaynes @MNG_Chem and undergrad @KristinOsika for determining the structure of sabinene synthase and showing us how to reprogram the cyclization cascade to make a [3.1.1] instead of a [3.1.0] bicyclic product!
