I know absolutely nothing about Magic the Gathering. Bought the starter kit to learn the game. The included guide doesn’t tell me how many cards I draw to start the game 😂 I had to google it.

This weekend in Sacramento 2 completely unknown players competing in their first Regionals made it to the finals out of 1400+ players. The winner getting $10k + a worlds invite, and the runner up getting $7k. There is no better time to start playing the Pokémon TCG!

TCG Live is actually so bad that we’ve got community members willing to self fund the creation of an online TCG Simulator.
Does anyone that follows me know how or what it would take to create an in-browser Pokemon TCG sim like the one on limitless (but with two players) or what playtcg_me was like back in the day? Basically what YuGiOh has in Dueling Book for Pokemon.

We ended up watching a how to play video. Here are some things that the Starter Kit doesn’t mention:
-How many cards to draw in your opening hand
-Summoning Sickness
-How to do damage to the opponent
-How to block an opponents attack
0/10 NOT “the best way to learn to play”

So Tord Reklev won his 4th Pokémon TCG international championship, everyone thought the format was doomed to be dominated by Lugia VSTAR for the next 3 months, and then a bunch of crazy decks like Frosmoth, Vikavolt, and Mewtwo VUnion, won regionals the very next week.

Pokémon hooked me up with an early look at PTCG Live last week.
It will be INCREDIBLY easy to build whatever deck you want, totally for free! There are 0 micro transactions in the game. The only way they could have made it easier is by literally giving everyone every card.

The PTCG Live timer now starts counting down as soon as an action is done, before you can even interact with your cards. In this clip, I'm barely able to play my cards after my opponents turn, and I actually lose a turn because of how long the Marine animation takes.

It’s not about the CP bar or a worlds invite, it’s about local communities having an opportunity to compete in a Pokémon TCG event. Such a low % of players who participate in challenges/cups actually go for or care about an invite. Locals are vital to the games health and growth.

Houston TSA went through every box of cards we had, even after asking if that’s what was in our bags while making comments and jokes about the hobby.
They took AN HOUR to go through everything this slowly, causing us to miss our flights. Unbelievable.

Home after a great weekend in Arlington! Didn’t quite finish as strong as I would have liked, but I really enjoyed participating in a Regional Championship for the first time in a few years. Playing on stream was really cool, but some mistakes and bad beats kept me out of day 2.
