Is Jurassic Park worth reading? Like many, the movie is an all-timer for me and I’ve heard the novel is much more intense but I can’t help by assume it reads like a generic thriller. Thoughts?
Revisited TCM through the lens of folk/cosmic horror and, yeah, I’m convinced.
The sun has a constant, menacing presence. Zodiac discussions and their celestial influence. Symbols and structures beyond comprehension. Horrific violence experienced in states of utter disbelief.
Thinking about TCM:
The radio report on a new plague, increasing suicides, solar flares.
A hook or puncture-wound painted on the van.
The act of processing flesh as ritual, the product as mere decoration or means for more processing.
Gallows-as-doorway, a gateway to The West.
Random horror thoughts:
SESSION 9 (2001) is one of my favorite hidden gems within the genre. Scared me to death when I was 12, and still scares me today. In some ways, maybe even more so. If this one slipped by you, I implore you to give it a try.
On
@Shudder
right now.
In LONGLEGS, whenever Agent Harker experiences a breakthrough in the case, the devil can be seen in the background. This alludes to earlier in the film when Harker likens her psychic abilities to someone tapping her on the shoulder, telling her where to look.
Next month I’m reading HOUSE OF LEAVES. It’s a Bucket List book for me, and it’s about time I check it off.
Any advice or tips on how to approach it? I have the recommended paperback edition.
Day 8 of documenting my month-long (mis?)adventure down the rabbit hole that is HOUSE OF LEAVES:
I always keep whatever book I’m currently reading on my nightstand, but not HoL. Whenever I finish reading, I put it back in my office. Just don’t want it near me while I sleep…
Random memory:
Backward seats in old station wagons were WILD. We really used to face oncoming traffic like no big deal, making eye contact with the driver behind us. How was this allowed? 😂
Exciting news! My debut novella, THE CREEK, will be available on Kindle shortly. Paperback editions will be coming soon.
Also included with THE CREEK will be my story HUSK, as a little token of my appreciation to anybody who orders my book.

Had the absolute privilege of listening to
@blacklionking73
speak today. A natural storyteller, it was a joy to listen to him this afternoon. So happy to have had the opportunity to meet him in person. 🙏🏼
Random horror thoughts:
I often think about how absolutely criminal it was that Lupita Nyong’o was robbed of any Oscar consideration for her brilliant dual performance in US.
In celebration of the holiday season, I’m giving away 5 signed copies of my debut THE CREEK. Rules for the giveaway are simple: Retweet this and comment below, saying you’d like to be entered into the drawing. I’ll also ship outside the U.S. 🎊
It’s our wedding anniversary. Deciding to get married on a whim, it was a very small ceremony. Today marks 7 years. Life is full of peaks and valleys; find someone you can weather the storms with.
Had to get our water heater replaced…
Serviceman: “Homes are our sanctuary, so when something is wrong with them, it causes a lot of stress for us.”
Me, “You ever hear of a book called HOUSE OF LEAVES?”
I’m not the fastest reader or writer. I don’t have the biggest imagination. But I’ve always been a hard worker, and that’s gotta mean something, right?
The lack of empathy I’ve seen regarding the submarine tragedy is concerning. Call me sensitive, but I find all the jokes about it in very poor taste. Imagine being in that absolute nightmare of a situation. Nobody deserves to die that way.
Currently in development…
My 2nd book.
“Commit enough devilry, and you’re bound to find the devil eventually.”
Cover work done by the immensely talented
@ReaderNw
Come October, I’m thinking of reading through a handful of “classic” horror novels for the first time. I have some early contenders in my mind, but would greatly appreciate some recommendations.
Our baby girl turns 4 today. No greater joy than watching her grow up, seeing her become her own person. We’ve taught her a lot, but she’s done the same for us.
We’re so proud to be her parents.
Happy birthday to our little queen! ❤️🎉
Day 16 of documenting my month-long (mis?)adventure down the rabbit hole that is HOUSE OF LEAVES:
This JUST dawned on me- The cover being smaller than the rest of the book represents Navidson’s discovery that the HOUSE is slightly bigger on the inside than it is on the outside!🤯
I wrote THE CREEK last year when my state was under lockdown. It was my first serious stab at writing.
Today, I did my first reading in front of a small crowd. Huge thanks to
@BarkingGooseBar
for hosting, & to
@authordileo
for organizing the event.
So I am nearly finished with THE DEAD ZONE by
@StephenKing
, and I’m still in disbelief of how timely it still is. The parallels between then and now are jarring, especially considering the book is damn-near 40 years old. Check out this passage I snapped a picture of, for example:
Embarrassed to admit that I’m finally watching DOCTOR SLEEP (
@flanaganfilm
, 2019) for the first time. Almost an hour in, and what a remarkable adaptation thus far. I’ll report back when I’ve finished it, but for now - loving it.
Ferguson is perfect as Rose the Hat.
Firmly believe the world would be a better place if people read more, especially books they’d consider to be outside their comfort zone. Reading expands our minds and helps us gain new perspectives.
Dipped into a department store earlier and grabbed a couple horror movie t-shirts, then went into a bookstore and was subsequently blown away by all the horror books on display. We’re living in a Horror Renaissance Era, and I’m happy to experience it.

Just going to fire from the hip here:
THE BABADOOK
THE WITCH
THE INVITATION
HEREDITARY
IT FOLLOWS
TRAIN TO BUSAN
THE WAILING
I SAW THE DEVIL
HUSH
THE DESCENT
JACOB’S LADDER (1990)
THE LIGHTHOUSE
Hopefully one of these sticks...

It definitely goes beyond undercooked McCarthy takes. Like you said, it’s a failure to comprehend art at large. People want everything spoon-fed to them, cut and dry. Art should be complex. It’s narrow-minded and honestly childish to think otherwise, or even want it otherwise.
I have a rule: If I have a gift card for a bookstore that’ll cover the price of 1 book, then I always leave with 2 because the 1st doesn’t really count towards my book budget.

Day 9 of documenting my month-long (mis?)adventure down the rabbit hole that is HOUSE OF LEAVES:
Hit a particularly chaotic stretch in the book, leaving me dizzy and as tho I’ve lost my sense of direction. Ingenious, given how these feelings mirror those felt by the characters.
Finally snatched up a copy of this behemoth today. Knowing how popular this book is, I’m thinking of giving it the HOUSE OF LEAVES treatment, where I documented my reading experience through daily tweets.
Maybe in the fall?
Anyone else have the irrational fear that whatever you’re currently writing will be the last idea you’ll ever come up with?
I find myself worrying about that whenever I’m close to finishing something.
After years of being on my TBR, I just started reading GEEK LOVE by Katherine Dunn and already have the sneaking suspicion that it might go down as one of my favorite books ever.
First read of October: COME CLOSER by Sara Gran. Realistic, haunting, and heartbreaking. It unraveled the way I’d hoped it would, which is the biggest compliment I have. Gran writes with unyielding confidence and courage. A transcendent piece of horror literature.
Our cat, Luda, is having some health issues. He’s currently under observation, as we wait to see if surgery is needed. Never easy when your animal is in pain or discomfort. I just want our boy to be okay😢
Almost a year since I self-published my writing debut, THE CREEK. It’s a dark coming-of-age novella, packing a horror punch. Here’s a picture of the creek that inspired the story.
Thanks for all the support over the past year. The response has been humbling.
Just realized I recently purchased a small gift for my wife w/ money I received directly for a piece I wrote.
Kind of blows my mind, & I don’t take such a privilege for granted.
Horror community, thank you. W/o your support, my writing never would’ve seen the light of day. 🙏🏼
Watched INCANTATION late last night. Holy shit, what a crazy movie. Definitely the best found footage film I’ve seen in a long time. Haven’t felt so emotionally and viscerally triggered since HEREDITARY.
Scary as hell.
Standing ovation.
