This Bill would stop politicians from duping voters into sending them personal data in the postal voting application process. The AEC hates it & so do voters but the parties don’t want to give it up. Don’t use the reply paid envelope- it’s not to the AEC! #auspol #electoralreform

You know things are bad when gambling companies suggest reform! @AlboMP can be led by harmful companies or listen to Australians sick of gambling ads. There’s no evidence that banning ads pushes people offshore. #auspol #gamblingreform

A welcome announcement that copyright applies to AI, but big questions still to resolve: how AI can to fairly use copyright material; how copyright law applies to AI material and how to make enforcement cheaper. So much new territory! #auspol

A well-resourced national regulator (as recommended in Murphy Report) would be better equipped to address these sites. Despite the PM’s comments, European experience shows regulating Aust gambling companies won’t drive big increases in offshore gambling. #gamblingreform #auspol

We have our foot on the accelerator and the brake at the same time on decarbonisation - tax breaks for fossil fuels make no sense. Matt Kean agrees. #auspol

This is great news for WA critical minerals, if...it includes Australia-based value adding and govt aligns investments with our decarbonisation priorities. Getting that right will unlock our future economic resilience. #auspol

1/2 the US’s economic growth in the last year came from investment in AI & almost 1/2 the value of the US stock market sits in 10 AI companies. Whether or not it’s a bubble, the consequences are huge. #auspol

Chatbots are not therapists. They may provide useful information but they are designed to agree with us, which isn’t always what we need. The govt must put appropriate structures in place so we can respond to emerging AI risks quickly. #auspol

Good to see anti-bullying actions announced, but the role of AI in bullying is alarming & rapidly changing. Teachers, parents & students must be supported & informed as our online world evolves. AI policy & regulation must be nimble and responsive. #auspol

Inquiry into FOI amendments begins today. The proposed changes will increase secrecy & further erode public trust in government. The Govt must work to strengthen (not weaken) access to information. Restoring trust requires being open and accountable, which means sharing more, not

Govt stopped backbenchers talking about gambling on Four Corners. Alarm bells? There’s a gap between what the community wants & what serves govt interests. Speak up for your communities, backbenchers. PM, it’s time to act! #auspol #gamblingreform

This week, the PM was not wasting any time on "this" issue, and the treasurer took one for the team as Brett Worthington signs off with his final political wrap.

Next election: politicians purchase ads in a chatbot to lead users to their ‘truth’, with fake videos reinforced by their AI companion. Good summary here of the issues I discussed with Peter on Friday at our ‘Can democracy survive AI?’ event. #auspol

As I’ve said from the outset, taxing unrealised gains never made sense - it’s taxing people before they’ve got the money to pay the tax. Today’s announcement looks like a promising change. #auspol
