‘Water’ has a direct and precise equivalent and meaning. ‘Vegetable’ does not. Basically any leaf, fruit, tuber, root, stalk, etc, can be called a ‘vegetable’ if they’re used frequently enough for human consumption and common enough among different cultures. 👉

If we're talking about hand-to-hand combat and the aspect of not being "touched," Aang's fighting style, real-life martial art, Baguazhang, was created for that specific purpose. Korra's fighting style is deadlier but Aang is impossible to touch or successfully grab/throw.

Aang, and the other other air nomads employ the real-life fighting style of Baguazhang. It doesn't harm the opponent but you will outlast or incapacitate them. If we're going deeper, Dim Mak (Ty Lee's fight style) stems from the same martial art. That's when it becomes deadly.
