Today we joined together at the Town of Newmarket Municipal office for a ceremony honouring the Pan-African flag raising. Hosted by the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association in partnership with the Town of Newmarket, the ceremony celebrates the rich heritage, culture, and invaluable contributions of people of African decent to our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to listen and learn together. @cypffa @TownofNewmarket @NaccaNewmarket #BlackHistoryMonth

How much do you know about CO? Carbon Monoxide (CO) is commonly reffered to as "the silent killer". It is colourless and odorless, virtually undetectable without the help of a CO alarm. CO alarms are not just a good idea though, it is also the law to have at least one outside each sleeping area of the home. Homes with fuel-fired appliances and/or an attached garage require these alarms. There are many types of devices from combination units (smoke and CO alarms), wall-mounted units, and plug-ins with battery back-up. Unsure of which you need? Please feel free to give us a call: 905-895-9222 Also, visit to learn more about carbon monoxide effects and prevention. @Town_of_Aurora @TownofNewmarket @cypffa @HawkinsGignac @ONFireChiefs @ONFireMarshal @FMPFSC @omfpoa

This week's fire safety tip focuses on your dryers! When is the last time you checked your dryer duct pipe and the exterior vent? This is something we urge you to regularly maintain to prevent dryer fires. When it's this cold, it's likely small animals are keeping warm in your exterior vents. Check ducts and vents to clear any culmination of lint or debris, to ensure your dryer can breathe. @TownofNewmarket @Town_of_Aurora @cypffa @ONFireChiefs

CYFS crews are constantly working on improving their skills to serve our community. They train in full gear in the heat of summer or the freezing temps of the winter. 🔥🧊🌧️❄️ Emergencies can happen at any time. Training in diverse conditions helps us prepare, every incident demands different things from each of us. Today crews at Station 4-5 were training with our auto extrication props, and were caught on camera by one of our Deputies. 📸 Proud of our team! @cypffa @TownofNewmarket @Town_of_Aurora

Become a #NeighbourhoodHero ! CYFS encourages residents to "Adopt a Hydrant" on your street. Clear hydrants means faster response time for our crews in the event of a fire emergency. Do you have a family member or neighbour who could use the extra hand shoveling their walk-way? This act of kindness goes a long way. Creating access for emergency medical assistance and clearing a path for responders and their equipment such as stretchers. Do you keep a clear hydrant? Tag us in a photo and we may share on our page! @TownofNewmarket @Town_of_Aurora @cypffa

🎁Give the gift of a fire free holiday🎁 Today is the 12th day of our #12DaysofholidayFireSafety campaign across the province. Here are our last three tips to help you keep your holiday fire-free: 🔥 SPACE HEATERS AND FIREPLACES Keep at least 1 Metre (3 feet) of distance between your heat source and anything that can burn 🚬SMOKING MATERIALS Improper disposal of smoke materials is the TOP CAUSE of fatal fires in Ontario. If you have guests that smoke, provide a designated location with sturdy/deep ashtrays. 🔋LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES Do not overcharge battery packs (ex: overnight), use their designated charger as supplied by the manufacturer, and only purchase items with safety markings such as CSA and ULC. @Town_of_Aurora @TownofNewmarket @ONFireChiefs @OAFEOntario @ONFireMarshal @FMPFSC @cypffa

DAY #9 of #12DaysofHolidayFireSafety 🥘 WATCH WHAT YOU HEAT 🍳 Unattended cooking is the leading cause of house fires in Ontario. Always stay in the kitchen and pay attention to your cooking. If a pot catches fire, carefully slide a tight-fitting lid over the pot to smother the flames and then turn off the heat. Avoid applying water. @omfpoa @OAFEOntario @ONFireChiefs @ONFireChiefs @Town_of_Aurora @TownofNewmarket @cypffa
