Why do producers have to fight so hard to get paid? No other creative in the industry is expected to work for free—so why do artists expect producers to? Backend-only deals sound good in theory, but in reality, they just delay payment for money producers are already entitled to. Producers aren’t investors. We aren’t here to fund your career. If you won’t put up $50 for a beat, you’re probably not putting money into promo either. So why should we take all the risk? It’s okay to want to build with somebody, but you gotta believe in you before you can start demanding everyone else does. A backend deal doesn’t ‘give’ producers anything—it just postpones payment and forces them to chase down what should’ve been guaranteed. No budget? Cool. But at least come with a real plan—split payments into smaller monthly amounts, bring a demo and a marketing strategy, something. Not just a request for free labor. Major artists pay for beats. Indie artists should too. Respect the work, or don’t be surprised when producers stop answering your DMs
