explain why Novak Djokovic is always referred to as “the Serbian” in press releases etc. Other players are just mentioned by name? I don’t recall either Federer or Nadal being referred to “the Swiss” or “the Spaniard” before their names.

I agree Jon. I don’t understand the hatred these so called “tennis” fans have for Novak. I’m a true Nole fan but never have I shown hatred towards any of his rivals. Carlos is a great player and what he has achieved at such a young age is wonderful and I wish him well.

Yes but they are not real tennis fans. The way he played the 1st set was just magic and you can’t say he was “lucky”. He just showed why he is No. 1 and has been for so many weeks. He has his fans and now majority of tennis journalists on his side as the GOAT.

Got to see Rod Laver, Ilie Nastase, Denis Ralston, John Newcombe etc on numerous courts and the men’s doubles which were wonderful. In those days you were not allowed to ask for autographs either!! The end
