@MerylThomson Totally agree! Out of curiosity, are there any dance scenes from non-Regency historical films you like?

@reallifeFrizzle Thanks! I'm not really counting "White Christmas," because the setting is contemporary to when it was made instead of being a historical costume film - though that IS a fun dance scene - but the rest are great!

@bookhoarding It is such a wild, goofy film! It's just a hoot! And that '80's soundtrack is just so '80s! This movie really puts the Goth in Gothic satire!

@jordan_uggla @SirPatStew Plus I refuse to believe that they wouldn't have much more humane ways of treating mental health issues - even severe ones - in the 24th century (when the incident presumably happened).

@jordan_uggla @SirPatStew We need to leave space for the idea that a person can be mentally ill AND still be the victim of abuse.

@jordan_uggla @SirPatStew To say nothing of how frequently abusers claim that their victims are not mentally competent. And often abusers target the mentally ill because they think they can use the illness as a cover and to better control their target.

@jordan_uggla @SirPatStew The whole story also is meant to exonerate Picard's father from being abusive, when the reality is that disabled people are much more likely to be abused than abled people. It is shockingly common for neurodivergent people to be abused by their caretakers.

@bookhoarding That is such a huge violation of trust! In what universe is this ok to do to someone?

@bookhoarding I couldn't agree more. The main reason I use YouTube as my platform is to avoid the paywall because I believe that knowledge and education should be free.
