Dr Hilary Cass will sit as a cross-bench Member of the House of Lords. This is it. Never has a peerage been more well deserved. In floods of tears here that she has the recognition for the task she took on with such aplomb, curiosity, insight and fairness.
Hi people who wish to be Prime Minister. When asked about *women* and the biology of *women* and the rights of *women* your immediate response shouldn’t be to quote a man, refer to rights of men who want to identify as women and ignore those of 51% population who are WOMEN 🤦♀️
Really significant that
@bhlabour
Hove CLP last night voted overwhelmingly in favour of policy to protect sex based rights for women & girls, for clarity that sex in Equality Act means biological sex & not to be confused with gender. More than double votes in favour than against.
The safeguarding of children is not a culture war. Brighton has no single sex services for women who have been raped by biological men with a penis. This is not a culture war. It is the defence of women’s and girls sex based rights.
In the face of Tory culture wars, where trans people are unjustly belittled and used as pawns, I will stand firm as the MP. Brighton Pavilion, let’s unite against this divisive rhetoric. Together, we can champion dignity, respect, and equality for all.
As former National Women’s Officer of the Labour Party & Pavilion member I am concerned about the protection of single sex spaces for women, the epidemic of medically transitioning teenage lesbians, fair play in sports for women. Not heard him say anything about these issues.
Brighton Pavilion is a place where diversity thrives, and we could make history by electing its first trans MP. For almost 40 years I’ve been a voice for trans people. Now I want to take that voice to parliament.
I will always vote Labour. But my Party should reflect with curiosity, humility & empathy why JKR speaks for so many women sick of being dismissed as toxic & questions about womanhood redrawn as purely about trans rights. Erasure of women wont win votes it makes you misogynist
This is my local hospital in Brighton. It is currently being investigated for over 100 deaths & recent CQC inspection showed there is a culture of bullying and harassment. So the Execs issue a statement on hormone filled milk of trans parents🤦♀️

Headline Correction: Tom Gray was selected as Labour’s candidate.
Attended hustings, history revisionism and “trans candidate” aside, I was struck by just how poor, unfocused, incoherent, lacking in policy or position, local knowledge & unable to answer questions Izzard was.
Bella Sankey has been privy to 300+ pages of legal correspondence from a family in Brighton about the specific harms her council Trans Toolkit has caused their child. The school even admitted causing harm to the child. Sankey never acknowledged the letters.

Very important and welcome intervention from Keir Starmer, acknowledging that the allocation of a GRC should not confer rights of a biological man to enter single sex spaces such as toilets & therefore also changing rooms, prisons, refuges, hospital wards & other services.

Equally possible to answer a question about a member of one’s own Party, a candidate for that Party in the election without using the word “toxic” thereby associating toxicity with that (woman) member. Not a good look for people who wish to be PM to have a woman problem.

Why is the ‘trans debate’ so toxic?
Because one side decided they could just lay down the law, assert a new reality and have no debate at all…

All of the cases reported to PSHE Brighton start with the way that gender is discussed in schools, which is not in a broad and balanced way and ushers confused children at critical stage of development down a specific pathway, highlighted by
@thecassreview
to be inappropriate
Sankey referred to parents in the council chamber as making “baseless smears”. Yet parents from every secondary school, most primary schools and some nursery schools in the City have raised concerns with local community groups because the council ignore them.
On the clinical side
@hannahsbee
book Time To Think exposed the Brighton NHS clinic referred to in my speech above, a pattern of prescribing behaviour in breach of multiple regulations and offering x-sex hormones to teenagers within a 10-30 minute consultation & no diagnosis.
Here’s how council staff and Labour Group went around snatching statements of a woman sexual assault survivor at a meeting about safety of women, because a man identifying as a woman was unhappy at their existence. No balance of rights of women & trans identifying adults there

With a v few notable exceptions, Labour politicians dismiss women, brand them toxic and reframe the entire policy area as a trans issue failing to acknowledge any impact what so ever for the safety and security of women. Challenge this and we are the creators of a “culture war”

staggers me that my own Party leadership are making such bold statements directly impacting child safeguarding without thinking of consequences. What has happened to their professional curiosity &critical thinking.
@thecassreview
Yet what Sankey & Emma Daniel the new Cabinet member for children, schools and families this is appropriate is to mock concerns about safeguarding and engage in reductive performance about lanyards. When they haven’t even been bothered to engage in harms they have caused to kids
@thecassreview
As a consequence the NHS has moved to a position of multi-disciplinary decision making for safeguarding reasons, just as this Labour policy is set to weaken the rigour in clinical decision making and move to individual single doctor decisions.
Despite the National Policy Forum agreeing not to introduce Self ID, we essentially have it through the back door.
Don’t believe me see the legal experts coming out one by one today 👇
A medical report from just one doctor (Harrop, Webberley, Kamaruddin); no need for approval from a panel; a "cooling off period" suggests day one rights. This is self ID.
Another case settled because employer is forced to recognise that their behaviour towards those who believe that sex is binary, immutable and biological has been unlawful & discriminatory.
Will they begin to learn that people are entitled to believe in sex based rights…
