My novel is currently being read by a sensitivity reader because (for genuine narrative purposes) it’s partly set in a country I have never been to. Although I’ve done my very best to avoid racial or cultural stereotypes, I want to know if there are any. Why is that wrong?
Today I drove across England and now I’m here for a week long residency in the cottage at The National Centre for Writing. Feeling very humbled to be sitting at the desk where so many other writers and translators have sat before me 💙
Today I visited The Silence Project window at Waterstones in Cardiff for the final time. I am SO grateful that it’s been the Welsh Book of the Month. It’s a privilege to have visited the Welsh stores and meet the fabulous booksellers. Thank you all so very much for your support x
@ChezSpecter
Among my female friends who've married men I am just about the only one who didn't take their husband's name. One of my husband's (male) friends told him that by keeping my own name, I was disrespecting my husband. They are friends no longer.
@ChezSpecter
Even more absurdly, the same 'friend' thought it was very strange that my husband wasn't annoyed that the dog's tag had my surname on it, and not my husband's. If my husband had been bothered to sort out the dog's tag himself, he could have put his own surname on it😁
As a very proud older debut writer (I signed my book deal at 50 and was published in Feb at 52) it’s great to see older authors being encouraged.
We have so much to say. Thank you
@JennyBrownBooks
for recognising this.
@davidmbarnett
My brother lives in New Zealand and we haven’t seen each other in nearly a year but today he had the very surreal experience of seeing my name in Christchurch Domestic Terminal Airport ❤️🇳🇿❤️

It’s amazing to see my book hanging out with books by authors I absolutely adore ❤️
101,910 words and the first draft of the next novel is done!
It’s a very drafty draft: I love the first half and the last tenth but the rest needs a LOT of work, however the first draft is FINISHED 🥳
…and that’s a wrap on my signing tour of the Waterstones of Wales. Final stop in lovely Aberystwyth.
Thrilled and honoured to be the
@Waterstones
Welsh Book of the Month. ♥️🏴💚
This afternoon, I’m suffering through the tail-end of Covid, while my parents are flying to NZ to visit my brother. My mum has just found The Silence Project in WHSmiths at Heathrow and I don’t know who’s happier - Mum or me 😍
@tiredpsych
The ‘face-offs’ in the lanes, because the local driver knows the nearest passing place is only a few dozen feet behind the other car, but the visitor driver refuses to reverse, either because they’re not used to reversing in narrow lanes, or they’re too belligerent!
Yesterday was the final day of the
#TheSilenceProject
Blog Tour and I want to thank each and every person who took the time to read the novel and write the most wonderful, thoughtful reviews. It has been a brilliant experience. Thank you all so very much ❤️
I have always wanted to make it onto a ‘Books of the Year’ list and what an amazing list to be on. Thank you so much
@LoveReadinguk
for being so supportive of my debut novel ♥️

Wow! I have had a tattoo for twenty-five years. My parents hate tattoos. I’m a solicitor. My parents still love me and I was senior partner of a law firm. The world did not end.

We did two episodes earlier this year on the roots of the current conflict in the Middle-East. Thank you to all who have messaged to say how useful they found them for understanding what is happening today.

When my previous agent told me my novel - The Book of Jem - was unpublishable and refused to submit it to publishers, I decided to self-publish it.
@KirkusReviews
called it ‘sublime’ and just named it one of the Best Indie Books of 2021!
