Time is running out on our democracy in TX. Resurrect the spirit of MLK & LBJ now. Let the people vote!
I will not be participating in the remainder of the special session. I don't participate in abusive relationships.
I will remain in our Nation's Capitol, lobbying Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

The majority of Texans don’t support permit less carry! The majority of Texans want reasonable checks and balances.
Yet, the Texas House controlled by one party voted to allow anyone and everyone to buy and carry a gun.
Some of the 99 members were not on the floor Thursday evening and instead marked present by their colleagues establishing a quorum
Anyone else find it interesting that the party arguing for “election integrity” claimed a quorum by voting members present who weren’t on the floor?
Today I thought about the history of suppressing the vote, about Dr. King & freedom fighters who fought for a free & fair elections system under the voter's right act of 1965. Therefore I joined my colleagues to take this fight to the Capitol of our democracy!

in 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand and refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Her act of courage ignited a movement that led to the Supreme Court's decision against segregation on public transportation.
Today Dr. Opal Lee's portrait became a permanent icon in the TX Senate chamber, recognizing her legacy as Grandmother of Juneteenth. It was a blessing to see federal action that ensures we recognize the end of slavery in Texas, with the help of Congresswoman Jackson Lee
Because of each and everyone of you—I am proud to announce that HB 929 The Botham Jean Act "Bo's Law" passed the Texas House on it's second reading!

We must change these conditions!

Out of 100 active units, only 30 Texas Department of Criminal Justice prisons are fully air-conditioned. We have a responsibility to provide humane conditions for incarcerated TDCJ citizens to live and TDCJ employees to work.
Today let us celebrate Barbara Jordan, a pioneering Black Texan.
She was the first Black Texas state senator, the first Black Texan elected to serve in the U.S. Congress, and the first Black woman to give a DNC address.
We were told this was a scrivener’s error. We were told that this was never supposed to be in the bill. Now Republicans are trying to revive this very provision that targets Black Christians who vote after church. Despicable.

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson has championed enormous opportunities in North Texas and beyond. Quite frankly, her accomplishments as our Congresswoman are too protracted for me to layout in a social media post.
Texas deserves a principled faith-based leader, a fearless advocate for our democracy, and a Senator who will fight for the rights of all citizens. That is why I am officially announcing my campaign for US Senate for the great state of Texas. Can I count on you?
Today, I received the news that I tested positive for COVID-19. I am thankful that my symptoms are mild.
I ask that everyone please stay vigilant because this pandemic is not over. I encourage each of you to take the Omicron variant seriously and get vaccinated. 🙏🏽
Incarcerated TDCJ individuals and TDCJ employees are vulnerable to extreme temperatures, and during the summer months, the feels-like temperatures can be upwards of 100°F.
I would like to challenge everyone to take a moment to thank our truck drivers. They work extremely hard, day in and day out, to meet the demands of our society—and not a day should go by that we don’t acknowledge their blood, sweat, and tears.
THANK YOU!

Does Hebrews 13:3 include TDCJ jailers? Texas scorching heat has been particularly brutal & dangerous inside our state prisons, where a majority of those incarcerated & the guards who watch over them, struggle in 110 degrees & more without air-conditioning. (1/3)
While Texans are doing their best to escape the brutal summer heat, many of our incarcerated TDCJ citizens and TDCJ employees are living and working in extreme temperatures without air conditioning.
Botham Jean was a faithful servant of God, a loving son, a protective brother, and a compassionate friend. Beloved member of his community, Bo left a lasting impression on those who had the pleasure of knowing him. On September 6, 2018, his life was taken.
The Crown Act was voted out of the State Affairs committee today. As a Joint Author on this important bill, I am encouraged that Texas will advance more non-discrimination for black students who are forced to change their hairstyles to participate as student-athletes in Texas.
Thousands of incarcerated individuals live, and hundreds of TDCJ employees work in dangerous heat conditions. We have to show more empathy for our fellow humans.
