American writer James A. Michener (1907–1997) was born to unknown parents & raised by foster carer Mabel Michener in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He was a naval historian, & won the 1948 Pulitzer Prize for Tales of the South Pacific which inspired a Rodgers & Hammerstein musical.
