In the nearly two years since war broke out in Sudan, almost one million people have fled to Chad. Humanitarian organizations warn that the majority of those refugees and returnees do not have access to the protection and education assistance they need.

Nahed with CARE Palestine fled her home in Gaza City with her family in October 2023. They were among the nearly 1.9 million people forced to flee, enduring life in makeshift tents, fleeing over and over. After the ceasefire, Nahed returned to find her home reduced to rubble.

“As Hunger and disease do not go away the moment the guns are silenced,” said @Deepmala_Mahla. “The health infrastructure, sanitation infrastructure, the road infrastructure … for us to take aid from one place to another is complicated. It’s difficult.”

Education is a human right, yet 1 in 10 children worldwide are not in school. This #EducationDay we must continue to work towards a world where all children can attend school and all people have access to education.

In 2024, an estimated 34.8 million people faced urgent humanitarian needs due to these underreported emergencies. By shedding light on these crises, we hope to highlight where support is needed and how communities are forging paths to resilience.
