📣UEA UCU members have overwhelmingly voted YES to industrial action, in the largest turnout we've had in a paper ballot at UEA. 📣We hope management will now recognise the depth of feeling there is at the University about the need to avoid compulsory redundancies. #SaveUEA

This! We've also for some time had concerns about the opacity of uni governance, concerns that have been repeatedly ignored by the top brass. We need a thorough review of decision-making & democratic structures. How can we help address challenges when there's so much secrecy?
More nuggets from @abbiewhitewick @WalesOnline. @Cardiffuni's VC admits she could've acted earlier (& with huge reserves) at a more gradual, gentler pace. She also ignored Council, demonstrating uni governance is a shambles. @CardiffUCU will respond later.

This is a significant vote. Many in attendance were not (yet) union members, dozens couldn't join because capacity issues, & hundreds more couldn't attend because of teaching. @cardiffuni you have an opportunity to stop this wrecking of our institution & livelihoods. Act wisely.

Our brilliant branch chair Renata telling it like it is: relying on tuition fees to fund the sector is not only a false economy but also has been used as a mechanism to massively reduce university funding. It needs to change and policymakers have the power to do it, if they want.
