I would pay, when he doesn’t send the card he gets dinged, and then provide the negative review.
Ultimately, I would chalk it up for one of two things.
1.) he didn’t like the final price the item sold for.
2.) he received a better price.

Selling at a loss is a bummer. It’s not frequent. But it happens.
No need to get your head wrapped around the numbers. Take the “L”, recoup the capital and move forward.
