Hopefully 2025 will be better for our butterflies and moths than 2024 was. Only four new macromoth species in the garden in 24, a woeful year for most insects. Portland Ribbon Wave, Light Crimson Underwing, Clancy's Rustic and Spiny Hook-tip. Not your usual Bristol residents

Spiny Hook-tip has had a remarkable year in the Bristol area, so far 138 have been reported from 15 locations. It's probably not unreasoanble now to describe it as frequent in areas with lots of holm oak in Bristol, through Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare.
